Britons Lead The Way in Eastbourne on Tuesday – Gallery

Tuesday proved to be excellent for British tennis fans in Eastbourne, not only has the rain moved away from the British seaside, but it also turned out to be a fantastic day for British tennis talent.

Glory for the British girls came early as Johanna Konta was able to win the first match out on center court. The British wildcard player got past Russia’s Ekaterina Makarova. Later in the evening, things got emotional as Heather Watson took on Elina Svitolina.

Dropping the first set against the Ukrainian, Watson rallied back to score a much-celebrated three-set win, carried along by the highly-enthusiastic crowd that is very much enjoying seeing one of their own do well on the grass.

Tuesday also turned out to be an excellent day for Eugenie Bouchard, since the Canadian tennis superstar finally managed to snap her unfortunate streak of losses, getting past American Alison Riske in straight sets. Riske joins another American on her way out of the tournament, as Madison Keys also wasn’t able to advance to the next round.

Having struggled with the flu last week, the reigning AEGON International champion played her first match on grass on Tuesday, meeting an in-form Belinda Bencic who’s already playing her third grass tournament of the season here this week. Bencic made most of her preparation advantage, sending Keys off in straight sets, much to the enjoyment of mentor Martina Hingis.

Other victorious players included Dominika Cibulkova, who has kept her comeback tournament going with a win over Roland Garros finalist Lucie Safarova, as well as Sara Errani who remained victorious in an epic three-set encounter against Barbora Strycova.

It’s third-round time at the 2015 AEGON International tomorrow and sixteen remaining girls will be fighting for their quarterfinal spot on the British seaside. Keep on checking back to Women’s Tennis Blog for all the latest action from Eastbourne!
