Little Masha and tiny Genie, an old pic perspective on the upcoming Australian Open QF

Tiny Bouchard with big Sharapova

Maria Sharapova and Eugenie Bouchard are about to meet in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Australian Open and having given you a statistical preview of the match, I’d like to provide you with another perspective on this encounter, a photo of Masha and Genie from the time way before they were Top 10 players (which is especially true for Genie!). I had actually already shared this photo ahead of their clash in the 2014 French Open semifinals, but it was not in a separate post, which I think it deserves as a part of the Little Tennis Stars series.

Super cute, isn’t it? Look how tiny Bouchard was! 🙂 The photo reminds me so much of the Venus Williams with Caroline Wozniacki old photo, where Caro was a like baby compared to Venus.

They look like sisters! I told you Genie is like Maria Sharapova in a lot of ways. In an interview, Maria said she is like Genie in terms of tennis (but not personally). But still, I see Genie be like Maria in the next few years. She’ll be the successor of Maria’s throne.

Emman Damian, you think Genie will be that successful? At Genie’s age Maria already had two Grand Slam titles to her name and the No.1 ranking!

Yeah. I know for sure. It’s a bit late for Genie but amongst her peers and age group, she is the most successful in terms of transition and all. Madison Keys is also transitioning well. I know it’s a bad time that these youngsters are competing amongst the legends like Maria and Serena but it is a learning experience to them.

Emman Damian, I’m not saying that it’s late for Genie, I’m just saying that champions of Masha’s caliber are few and far between and I’m not sure Genie will match her success.
