Annika Beck

Twenty-year-old Annika Beck of Germany has played two WTA finals, both at the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open, and while she lost the last year’s one to Caroline Wozniacki, this time she worked her way to the chamion’s trophy by beating Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in the title match.

The fourth-seeded Zahlavova Strycova’s serve was shaky, she won just 49% of points on her first serve, and that reflected in the number of breaks Beck managed to earn — a total of seven. In the first set, the 60th-ranked Beck went a double break up to lead 4-1 and even though she dropped serve in the following game she broke her opponent again to ensure the set. The world No.31 Zahlavova Strycova’s woes continued in the second set, as she lost serve right in the beginning and the situation didn’t get better as the match went on. The Czech won just one game in that second set and the German celebrated 6-2 6-1.

Beck, whose both parents are chemistry professors, is now richer by 34,677 EUR, adding up to her $854,689 in career prize money.

Annika’s winning apparel: the Nike Winter Advantage Print Tank with a subtle dot print, the photogenic Nike Women’s Winter Woven Pleat Skirt and the Nike Zoom Vapor 9.5 Tour turquoise shoes.

I hope you enjoyed Jimmie48‘s coverage of the Luxembourg Open.
