Sabine Lisicki tumbled out of the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open already in the second round, but the early loss by no means affected the German’s wide smile and she was glowing at the tournament’s player party.
The third-seeded Lisicki was defeated by a rising Czech talent Denisa Allertova, the world No.145 who has made the semifinals this week, but even though the trophy is not the thing Lisicki will take home from Luxembourg, she did win something: voted as the best-dressed player of the evening, Lisicki won a dress from Jitrois.
Also enjoying the evening of food and dancing were second seed Alize Cornet, who just like Lisicki fell in the second round, Timea Bacsinszky, Monica Niculescu, now-retired former world No.2 Jana Novotna, and others.
Today we’ll have the Luxembourg semifinals featuring Annika Beck vs. Denisa Allertova and fourth seed Barbora Zahlavova Strycova vs. Mona Barthel.
The tournament’s top seed was Andrea Petkovic, who struggled heavily against Pauline Parmentier in the first round and lost in straight sets. Her father told Bild that “She’s going through a difficult phase and will take a break” and he also said “She has problems with her wrist and doesn’t feel fit. Private (problem) is nothing serious”.
