WTA fashion statements at the 2014 US Open – blues, nudes, glamorous blacks, polka dots, animal prints

Women's Tennis Blog has the tradition of overviewing clothing at all Grand Slams and the US Open tops the list of all tennis fashionistas – bringing the greatest variety of designs under the glamorous lights of New York City.

Victoria Azarenka at the 2014 US Open

Nike's Victoria Azarenka is working a modern twist of a classic tennis look with this Fall Premier Sleeveless Polo combining deep royal blue, game royal, midnight navy and ivory; single-color simple shorts and the Belarusian has a perfect combo for a touch of traditional in high-end design.

Eugenie Bouchard at the US Open 2014

Member of Maria Sharapova's fashion clan Eugenie Bouchard is wearing the Nike Women's Fall Premier Maria Tank featuring stylish straps on the back. The item does resemble athletic swimwear, but I like it. The matching Nike Women's Fall Flouncy Knit Skirt is also very sporty, but a bit of flounce adds a touch of elegance.

Petra Kvitova at the 2014 US Open

Nike played with subtle polka dots in Petra Kvitova's Fall Advantage Print SS Top, suitable for those looking for short sleeves. There are matching dotted shorts in this collection, but the Czech opted for universal Fall Victory Court Skirt.

Jelena Jankovic at the 2014 US Open

Also playing with the shades of blue was Fila, who created a memorable look for Jelena Jankovic with their honeycomb dress from the Center Court collection.

Venus Williams at the 2014 US Open

Venus Williams is known for her love of prints and for her EleVen clothing brand over the years she has created many – roses, geometry, tie-dyesherringbones. Just like many others, Venus was playing with the color blue and created this Vintage Floral Closed Grip Dress featuring scoop neck and keyhole opening.

COMPARE US OPEN FASHION FROM PAST YEARS:

Svetlana Kuznetsova at the 2014 US Open

Svetlana Kuznetsova, the representative of Chinese brand Qiaodan, sported a picturesque look that will sure stay in our memory despite the 2004 US Open champion's first-round loss.

Now, let's move from blue to the glamorous blacks.

Maria Sharapova at the 2014 US Open

Maria Sharapova improved to 18-0 in career night matches at the US Open wearing this tennis version of a little black dress. Perfection! Maria and a black dress for night matches at the US Open are a match made in heaven. My absolute favorite remains the stunning black piece in which the Russian lifted the 2006 US Open trophy, but this new Fall Maria Night Dress sparkly skirt is also nice, adding the necessary touch of glamor to NYC.

Agnieszka Radwanska

The biggest representative of the dot print was Agnieszka Radwanska with her Lotto Maddy Dress with adjustable tank straps. Shoes: Lotto Raptor Ultra IV Speed.

Dominika Cibulkova at the 2014 US Open

Unlike formerly overly conservative Lotto, Lacoste is still not keen on venturing into the world of the unknown and their representatives Alize Cornet and Dominika Cibulkova wore the brand's always-current combination of navy and white.

Ana Ivanovic at the 2014 US Open

Adidas' version of a little black dress is this elegant racerback Adizero dress featuring a tonal glossy print application at neckline and sides. Of course, Ana Ivanovic was the top model for the design.

Serena Williams at the 2014 US Open

The star felling sexy in an animal print is Serena Williams, with pink for the day and black and white for the night. I am always rooting for daring and memorable outfits at Flushing Meadows and Nike has risen to the challenge with this Nike Women's Fall Serena Dress.

Maria Sharapova - day - US Open 2014

I have already talked a lot about Maria Sharapova's day look, so now I will just mention that the grey and orange outfit is the Nike Women's Fall Maria Day Tunic, while the shoes are Nike Air Vapor Advantage Grey/Mango.

Andrea Petkovic at the 2014 US Open 2

Stella McCartney's ruffly nude collection for Adidas is also something I have already covered in detail. Now I can only conclude that it's an absolute hit. We were wondering how the overly feminine line will work on Andrea Petkovic, but the German rocked both the asymmetrical Barricade NY Tank and the matching skort. Shoes: Adidas Stella Barricade 8.

Caroline Wozniacki at the 2014 US Open

Stella's top name Caroline Wozniacki is promoting a dress from the collection, the meat color version of it. Shoes: Adidas by Stella McCartney Barricade 8 in poppy pink.

I pretty much like all these outfits, except, hmm, can you guess which one? :P Since I always try to pick one favorite, I'll go for Sharapova's night oufit, as you have probably realized from this article, I'm a sucker for a little black dress at the US Open. My second favorite would be Stella's nude/powder/meat collection, together with Aga's lively polka dots. Serena's animal prints are also a nice refreshment, while I also like Vika's polo and Genie's blue swimwear style. As I said, I basically like them all! :D What about you? (photos: Andrew Ong, Philip Hall, Pete Staples, Corey Silvia)

I really like Azarenka's outfit ! A lot of players look good this year. My favorites: Aga, Petko and Vika.

I love Ana and Maria's dresses and also Serena's. I could never pull off the cheetah, but she does!

I do not care for the Stella McCartney collection. I think the ruffle overwhelmed some of the women (Kirilenko especially)

please don't tell you don't like jj's dress :P . I like how serena is rocking her dresses. Remember? i couldn't imagine serena in that dress. i like venus and aga's dresses. I did like stellas's designs and her colors but i think it does not look good when players are sweating. And coming to the black dresses i like ana's better than maria's and coming to maria's day outfit she wore those colors way too many times already

I like Venus's dress the best. Don't mind Serena's leopard print, Aga's polka dots and Maria's outfit. I think the black dresses look a bit plain and severe. JJ's is kind of out there but at least it fits and stands out. As I said previously, I think both the style and colour of Stella Macartney's dresses are dreadful, also can't see why everyone likes Vika's outfit – the shorts are ok, but the top is shapeless and unflattering. Petra looks pretty awful, but then fashion is obviously not her thing.

Kristin Whelan, you're right, the problem with Serena's outfit is that a small number of people can pull it off and not look trashy.

Sru, I also like JJ's dress, but apparently it didn't make the top of my list :) I like the cutouts in the back of Ana's black dress. I like Sharapova's just a tiny bit better. And you're right about Masha's day colors. The design is quite innovative, though.

CT, Venus' dress is nice, especially the cute open back. I dunno, I simply like modern-looking polos, not Lacoste conservative, but with interesting color blocks and meshes.
