Ana Ivanovic

At the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, fifth seed Ana Ivanovic made short work of Canadian qualifier Carol Zhao 6-1, 6-1 and set up a blockbuster quarterfinal with world No.1 Serena Williams, while Venus Williams defeated Victoria Azarenka for the fourth consecutive time in straight sets.

Playing the first tournament with her new coach Dejan Petrovic, in her new pink Adidas Fall Adizero Dress, the black version of which she’ll wear at the US Open, Ivanovic recorded her WTA-leading 41st victory of the season. The Serb will now return to the Top 10 after more than five years! Serena and Ana have met twice this year, splitting the score at 1-1 – Ana won on the Australian Open hardcourts, while Serena won the more recent meeting on clay in Rome.

Premiering her EleVen Herringbone collection, Venus Williams battled past the fourth-seeded birthday girl Azarenka. The match was decided in the second-set tiebreak, even though Venus served for the match at 5-3 in the second set and had a double match point at 6-5. Final score: 6-4 7-6(1).

Friday’s quarterfinals feature Garbine Muguruza vs. third seed Angelique Kerber, Sachia Vickery vs. Varvara Lepchenko, Venus Williams vs. eighth seed Andrea Petkovic and the last on schedule is the mouth-watering clash between Serena and Ana. (photo via: @Kfish_WTA)
