As we say here, trouble never comes alone! Caroline Wozniacki knew that all eyes would be on her today, to check how her shockingly sudden and embarrassing recent end of engagement to golfer Rory McIlory would affect her in her first match since the cold feet situation and the outcome is just deepening the despair – the Dane lost in the first round of the French Open to Yanina Wickmayer 7-6(5) 4-6 6-2, whom she had beaten six out of seven times in the past. On the other hand, the bad guy in the breakup story, Wozniacki’s ex-fiancé McIlory, won the PGA Championship at Wentworth on Sunday. Oh well, tables will have to turn at some point in the future! Keep your head high, Woz!

In unavoidable questions about her love life crash during the post-match press conference, the 23-year-old said:

What happens in my personal life, I just want to really keep that between my closest people around me. I just have to move on.

Besides emotional struggles, Wozniacki is still troubled by a knee injury, which forced her to withdraw from Rome, and in the coming period she will work on getting her fitness to 100% for her next tournament at Eastbourne and for Wimbledon.

  1. It must have been pretty hard for her to compete under these circumstances. Good for her that she had the strenght to at least try.

  2. In a way, it’s good for Caroline that she is out so she can get away from the media and chill. All these articles I have seen where they have linked her loss to Rory are pathetic. Truth is, she has had a terrible clay court season, which has been plagued by injury. I hope she will be 100% for the grass 🙂

  3. Honestly, I didn’t see her go far in Roland Garros not just cause her personal life but her performance in tennis pass few months was been dismal. I’m in the camp who believe until she stop getting coach by her father and actually make an effort to listen the new coach she will continue to decline in WTA ranks IMHO.
