Dominika Cibulkova

Dominika Cibulkova had surpassed Agnieszka Radwanska and Li Na by notching a WTA leading 22nd win of 2014 in the second round of the BMW Malaysian Open against Hsieh Su-Wei and now she’s left the rest of the WTA players further behind, scoring her 23th victory of the season against world No.93 Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals of the Kuala Lumpur tournament. This week, the top-seeded Cibulkova could compile as much as 25 match wins.

En route to the tight 4-6 6-2 6-4 victory against Diyas, the tenth-ranked Slovakian saved an astonishing 20 of 26 break points, compared to Diyas’ three of 11. Her next opponent could be defending champion and third seed Karlina Pliskova, provided she goes past Cagla Buyukakcay in the quarterfinals. (photo: Jimmie48)

And you call this a WTA tournament???

WTA has put this tournament only to piss off a little bit more the ITF and try to derail the FedCup.

As for Dominika, shame on her! She should play for her country which is in a very difficult situation this week-end and could (will???) drop off from the world group.

  2. Gregoire, I like it that KL has a WTA tournament, but you’re right, this year the field is weak and the seedings are nose-diving down the rankings.
