Anna Chakvetadze

A few days ago I updated you about Tatiana Golovin, the player who reached her peak in 2007 and soon after disappeared. Well something similar happened to Anna Chakvetadze, who reached the No.5 ranking in 2007 and won four WTA titles that same year, but in December 2007 she became the victim of a robbery in her Moscow house and things have never been the same again, there has been no return to her old glory, even though she did win two more WTA titles afterwards.

What has Chakveradze been up to now? Well here’s a nice update. Chakvetadze joined the coaching staff of the Russian Fed Cup team for their upcoming tie with Argentina, the April 19-20 World Group Play-offs in Sochi.

The 27-year-old asked the President of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev to coach and help her colleagues and Russia’s team captain Anastasia Myskina agreed. The team features: Ekaterina Makarova, Elena Vesnina, Valeria Solovyeva and Darya Kasatkina.

Chakvetadze officially retired from tennis in September 2013, saying how they “robbed her at the wrong time” and, besides her chronic back injury, the crime also very much affected her future career. (source: Tennis-Russia.ru, photo: Ralf Reinecke)
