Eugenie Bouchard is living up to the hype – at the ongoing Family Circle Cup in Charleston, where she had reached her first Premier-level quarterfinal a year ago, she repeated the feat by beating Venus Williams in a 7-6(6) 2-6 6-4 thriller, and further enhanced her surge by battling past world No.8 Jelena Jankovic 6-3 4-6 6-3, recording the biggest win of her career in front of a packed center court crowd.
The Canadian made a name for herself and already turned into the WTA’s marketing muse while still a teenager (on February 25th this year she turned 20 in Acapulco), but you know that here on Women’s Tennis Blog I always like to get back into the past and see the sparkle in the eyes of a future champion when she was just a child – on Genie’s Twitter profile I found this lovely early photo with tennis legend Billie Jean King. Well, neither of them has changed that much! 🙂
How did she do it?
Q: “Name one thing that’s brought your game up to another level this year, what would it be?”
Bouchard: “Hard work?”
In the semifinals of the Family Circle Cup, Bouchard will play Andrea Petkovic, the other member of the hilarious Jankovic/Petkovic duo.
You probably already know about our Little Tennis Stars section, where we have featured numerous childhood photos of WTA players, including an old photo of Eugenie Bouchard and Laura Robson together. Now I’d like to remind you that Women’s Tennis Blog is also on Pinterest and there you can browse through the childhood pics as well!
