The four players that reached the semifinals of the $5,427,105 Sony Open Tennis are not only those that have played the best this fortnight, they are all top representatives of their brands and among best dressed WTA players. We have three Nike ambassadors in the semis – Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams and Li Na – and Lacoste-clad Dominika Cibulkova.

Let’s give precedence to the sole Lacoste representative, Dominika Cibulkova, who recently launched her own Domi fashion brand. The Slovakian is wearing a navy dress, the typical Lacoste color, with dominant white V-neck, highlighted by a light blue line.

Maria Sharapova is wearing a bright citron Nike tank and a high-waisted printed skort. The outfit is not the best thing the Russian fashionista has ever worn, but I wouldn’t go as far as Sports Illustrated who said that Nike made her “look like a dirty marshmallow Peep that got run over by an 18-wheeler”.

Serena Williams also made the fashion misses list of Sports Illustrated, but for me the dress is perfectly fine, actually very typical Serena, nothing new, but also nothing bad. The dress is similar to the OZ Open dress Serena introduced at the January’s Grand Slam, but the teal and orange combo represents the colors of Miami Dolphins, the NFL team that the American co-owns.

Li Na is staying away from girly clothes, always representing Nike’s classic separates. This time it is a white top with signature neckline and a light blue skirt.

My favorite look of the semifinalists is Serena’s. The print of Sharapova’s skirt is a bit delusional, Li Na is too simple for my taste, while I’m not a huge fan of sharp V-necks such as Cibulkova’s, especially not this dominant. What’s your style?

  1. I really like Lacoste designs but not on Cibulcova. If she were to wear just one size larger it would look just fine.
