This baseball kid moves into Acapulco tennis final

Who is this? On Friday at the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL in Acapulco, this American baseball tennis star set up a clash with the Australian Open runner-up and top seed Dominika Cibulkova, by reaching her first WTA final with a 3-6 6-2 7-5 victory over Caroline Garcia. Of course, it's 21-year-old Christina McHale.

Christina McHale also had her soccer days (above she is pictured with her older sister Lauren), although she actually did competitive swimming growing up.

Christina's sister also plays tennis and has graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill.

McHale can be proud of speaking English, Spanish and basic Mandarin! She learned Chinese while living in Hong Kong, due to her father's job, from age 3 to 8. Her first tennis memories are related to her Hong Kong days.

And I'd like to finish this article with my favorite childhood photo of Christina! :)

Lookin' cool with the shades!

In this page you can find links to all our articles featuring childhood photos of women's tennis stars. There's also McHale's Acapulco final opponent – Dominika Cibulkova as a short-haired kid. (photos via McHale's Twitter)

Oh lord, I had the word runner-up in my mind, but I wrote champion. Thanks for the note! Corrected!

Cute pics … nice to see Christina back in form, should be a good match against Domi – good luck to both girls!
