Sharapova to face Pavlyuchenkova in Paris semis

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova

I hope you enjoyed the live coverage of Women's Tennis Blog's photographer Jimmie48's from the Open GDF SUEZ on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I love how he carried out the not-at-all-easy task and I'm sad to continue on my own, but I'm glad that I provided him with accreditation for Dubai, so soon he'll be back in action!

We have our first semifinal pair in Paris – it's Maria Sharapova vs. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, whose today's victories were very different. The top-seeded Sharapova made it past eighth seed Kirsten Flipkens in just 68 minutes, winning the last four games of the match for a 6-2 6-2 triumph (Flipkens had no winners in the second set!), while her fellow Russian Pavlyuchenkova came out on top of a highly-contested quarterfinal against fourth seed Angelique Kerber and despite failing to win the first set when she was just points away from claiming it, Pavlyuchenkova eventually made way to victory 5-7 6-3 7-6(3).

In the third quarterfinal of the day, local favorite Alize Cornet outlasted Andrea Petkovic in long three hours, 7-6(6) 5-7 6-3, and will next face the winner of the encounter between Elina Svitolina and third seed Sara Errani.

I saw someone post very interesting post on twitter that Maria Sharapova has had 43 aces but 65 Double Faults this very bad stat for tennis players to have imho. I wasn't shock that Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won this tennis match.
