There was no shortage of quality matches at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin today as the 2014 Open GDF Suez continued with round 1 & 2 action.
The day had lots of spectacular matches to offer as last year's champion Mona Barthel made an early exit against Kirsten Flipkens, the home crowd enjoyed watching Kristina Mladenovic beat Simona Halep and Angelique Kerber swept by Klara Zakopalova.
None of that gathered nearly as much attention as the tournament's #1 seed Maria Sharapova who opened her Open GDF Suez 2014 campaign with a furious win over Daniela Hantuchova.
Afterwards, the Russian world #3 did not just charm the Parisian crowds but made lots of friends among the media as well, sharing some free Sugarpova candy with all the hard-working press members.
