Ivanovic wins a set against Vesnina, enough to make Sofia semis

Ana IvanovicFriday was a decisive day at the Garanti Koza WTA Tournament of Champions, determining the three players who would join Simona Halep in the semifinals. Ana Ivanovic was the first to join the Romanian, despite losing her today's encounter, then Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Samantha Stosur.

As Elena Vesnina went off to a 4-0 start against Ivanovic, the Serb's chances of reaching the semifinals looked grim, but the winner of two titles at the Tournament of Champions won three straight games to approach the Russian and even though she lost the set due to the late revival, we realized that there was some fight in Ivanovic. And that's exactly how the second set developed. After dropping serve in the first game of the second set, Ivanovic won four games in a row for a 4-1 lead, which she soon capitalized on to win the set and ensure her place in the semifinals despite losing the tight third set in which she had a 5-2 lead. Final score: 6-4 3-6 7-6(1). The second semifinalist in Group Sredets was determined in the last match of the day, when Samantha Stosur defeated Tsvetana Pironkova 6-1 6-4. Had Stosur lost, Vesnina would made the semis.
