Bouchard and Stosur run over first-time WTA semifinalists in Osaka

Eugenie BouchardEugenie Bouchard and Samantha Stosur advanced to the final of the $235,000 HP Open in Osaka by taking out maiden WTA semifinalists, Japanese hope Kurumi Nara and American teenager Madison Keys, respectively.

The fifth-seeded Bouchard was third time lucky in the semifinals, having previously lost in the final four of Strasbourg and Quebec City this year, winning seven successive games from 2-2 in the first set and soon beating the 21-year-old Nara 6-2 6-2. Despite the loss, the 87th-ranked Nara can be more than satisfied of how she used her wildcard. Earlier in the day, third seed and 2009 HP Open champion Samantha Stosur, took out sixth seed Madison Keys 6-1 6-2.

The world No.35 Bouchard and world No.20 Stosur have faced each other only once so far, this year in Charleston, and Bouchard was the winner, but through a retirement of her opponent. (photo: © Neal Trousdale)
