Angelique Kerber advances to Linz semifinals and claims the final spot in Istanbul

Angelique KerberTop seed Angelique Kerber secured her place at the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships and qualified for the second straight year by defeating Patricia Mayr-Achleitner in the quarterfinals at the Generali Ladies Linz on Friday, without dropping serve and breaking her opponent twice in each set, 6-3 6-1.

Kerber's opponent in the semifinals will be fourth seed Carla Suarez Navarro, who dispatched fifth-seeded Kirsten Flipkens 6-1 6-3. Kerber and Suarez Navarro have faced each other once, and it was pretty recently, in the fourth round of the US Open, when the Spaniard won 4-6 6-3 7-6(3).

The second semifinal pair at the Generali Ladies Linz will feature 58th-ranked Stefanie Voegele, who eliminated second seed Sloane Stephens in long two hours and 46 minutes, 6-7(3) 6-4 7-5, and seed No.3 Ana Ivanovic, the 2008 and 2010 Linz champion, who defeated seventh-seeded Dominika Cibulkova 6-2 6-4. Voegele, ranked 58th, and Ivanovic will meet up for the first time in their careers. (photo: JJ-Tennis)

Happy for Angie to go to Istambul, though she takes the seat of Caro :-(

The fact that Errani goes to Turkey is a total nonsense. She lost twice at first round of grand slams and once at second round. She will be double bageled again by Serena if she falls in the same pool.
