The remaining five matches of the Generali Ladies Linz second round finished on Thursday and we have our quarterfinals pairs.
Seventh seed Dominika Cibulkova beat 158th-ranked Katarzyna Piter in their first encounter 6-0 6-1 and became the first to advance to the quarterfinals today, setting up a clash with third-seeded Ana Ivanovic, who had progressed to the final eight on Wednesday. Sloane Stephens, seeded No.2, beat Andrea Petkovic 7-6(1) 4-6 6-3 and advanced into the quarterfinals where she will meet Stefanie Voegele, who defeated Karin Knapp 4-6 6-2 7-5.
Patricia Mayr-Achleitner pushed trough by defeating Maryna Zanevska 6-1 6-7(1) 6-4 and will next face top-seeded Angelique Kerber, who messed up the draw when awarded a wildcard for the International-level tournament. Ivanovic was especially vocal about the reshuffling that took place and received support from Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova, Donna Vekic and Vesna Dolonc. Anyways, Kerber is through to the quarterfinals, having blitzed past Alexandra Cadantu 6-1 6-0.
