Second-round action completed in Linz: Cibulkova, Kerber and Stephens advance

Dominika CibulkovaThe remaining five matches of the Generali Ladies Linz second round finished on Thursday and we have our quarterfinals pairs.

Seventh seed Dominika Cibulkova beat 158th-ranked Katarzyna Piter in their first encounter 6-0 6-1 and became the first to advance to the quarterfinals today, setting up a clash with third-seeded Ana Ivanovic, who had progressed to the final eight on Wednesday. Sloane Stephens, seeded No.2, beat Andrea Petkovic 7-6(1) 4-6 6-3 and advanced into the quarterfinals where she will meet Stefanie Voegele, who defeated Karin Knapp 4-6 6-2 7-5.

Patricia Mayr-Achleitner pushed trough by defeating Maryna Zanevska 6-1 6-7(1) 6-4 and will next face top-seeded Angelique Kerber, who messed up the draw when awarded a wildcard for the International-level tournament. Ivanovic was especially vocal about the reshuffling that took place and received support from Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova, Donna Vekic and Vesna Dolonc. Anyways, Kerber is through to the quarterfinals, having blitzed past Alexandra Cadantu 6-1 6-0.
