World No.4 Agnieszka Radwanska has been to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open four times, of the French Open once, and at Wimbledon she played the final once, semis once and quarters twice, but the Pole will have to wait for another year to try to reach the final eight of the US Open for the first time. On Louis Armstrong Stadium the third seed fell to Ekaterina Makarova in straight sets, despite establishing an initial 4-0 lead and boasting a 3-0 head-to-head record against the Russian.

After falling those four games early in the match, the 24th-seeded Makarova ran off with eight straight games to 6-4 2-0, and even thought Radwanska revived midway in the second set and kept herself in the match, Makarova stunned her 6-4 6-4. Next for Makarova will be fifth seed Li Na, who lost just three games against ninth seed and the 2008 US Open runner-up Jelena Jankovic in the fourth round, 6-3 6-0.
