In a clash of Stella McCartney ambassadors, Laura Robson and Maria Kirilenko, it was British No.1 that celebrated a triumph over the tenth-seeded Russian.

As Kirilenko’s fiancé Alex Ovechkin nervously watched from the stands, Robson converted the sole break opportunity she earned in the first set and it was enough for her to claim the set, in which Kirilenko made no unforced errors but hit only three winners. With a double break, Robson established a 4-1 lead in the second set, but Kirilenko didn’t allow it to be over yet and approached to trail 3-4 and then 4-5, but Robson was still that one break up and this time she served it out for a 6-3 6-4 victory.

Kirilenko was a quarterfinalist at last year’s Wimbledon, while Robson had won one match in her four appearances at the grasscourt Grand Slam.

Moreover, here’s a funny Robson quote on Justin Timberlake:

We met him one year at Wimbledon, and he was just a bit shorter than me. And I was 15 at the time. It was really disappointing.
