World No.45 Simona Halep is in the form of her life, winning her maiden WTA title on the clay of the Nurnberger Versicherungscup last week and now another one on the grass of the Topshelf Open in the Netherlands. You can’t have a smoother transition from clay to grass! The Romanian has won 16 of her last 18 matches, including qualifying.

After the first-round win over Annika Beck, Halep took out top seed Roberta Vinci, then lucky loser Lesia Tsurenko, before storming past third seed Carla Suarez Navarro in the semis, and then beating Kirsten Flipkens 6-4 6-2 in a rain-interrupted final.

Halep collected $43,000 as the Topshelf Open champion. Her next stop is Wimbledon, where she faces Olga Govortsova in the first round. (photo: Ralf Reinecke)
