On a rainy day in Paris, Jelena Jankovic showed superior quality and great courage, managing to recover from 5-0 down and save triple set point at 5-4 down in the second set of the first round against Daniela Hantuchova at Roland Garros 2013.
After constant smaller leads in the first set, on which she eventually capitalized, the 18th-seeded Jankovic allowed a drastic fall in the second set, but the amazing claycourt slider showed the skills that once took her to the world ranking of No.1 and managed not only to win the match, but to prevent the third set by taking the tight second-set tiebreak on the third set/match point. Final score: 6-4 7-6(7).
This was too big a clash for the first round, but Jankovic used the opportunity of facing the former world No.5 to remind us of her superb abilities and big heart. Next up for her will be Garbine Muguruza.
Fashion info: The cold weather prevented Jankovic from presenting her Fila dress from the Summer 2013 Baseline collection, as she wore pink long sleeves and leggings and just the skirt of the dress was showing. (photo by Francesca Moscatelli)
