By capturing the XXV Italiacom Open in Palermo, Sara Errani has become the first Italian to win four titles in a single season, following her 2012 victories at Acapulco, Barcelona and Budapest, also on red clay.

In all her wins en route to the Palermo title, the top-seeded Errani lost a total of just 20 games defeating Edina Gallovits-Hall, Patricia Mayr-Achleitner, Alexandra Cadantu, Irina-Camelia Begu, and finally eighth seed Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-1 6-3. Zahlavova Strycova won the Palermo doubles title with Renata Voracova, their second WTA doubles title together.

This year is magical for Errani. The four WTA titles are only the addition to her Roland Garros final, that came after victories over three Grand Slam champions, her Roland Garros doubles title, her first Top 10 victory in 29 tries and the fact that she herself became a Top 10 player after Roland Garros.

Before the four 2012 titles, Errani won two – Palermo and Portoroz – way back in 2008.

Additional info: At the other tournament of the week, victorious player was also top seed – Serena Williams at Stanford.
