The Serbian sisters are out of sync and it could be a good sign. Only yesterday did we report that Ana Ivanovic stopped working with Scott Byrnes as her fitness coach and today we’re learning that former world No.1 Jelena Jankovic has a new coach in her team, German Henner Nehles, a former UNLV standout player. Nehles will travel to Australia with Jankovic, who has also hired Korey Goodwin as her fitness trainer.

Jankovic’s last coach was Ricardo Sanchez and the Spaniard is now proudly working with top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki.

Additional info: IMG is no longer managing Jelena Jankovic. The Serb started cooperating with IMG in January 2009, but has now replaced the agency with Linda Long, a former executive with Puma and Nike. (source: Tennis.com, photo: © Neal Trousdale)

  1. To be honest, I have never heard of this guy so i’m not really sure what to make of it! I’m a big fan of Jankovic, but I have to admit I think that her best days are behind her. The one big problem for me is her mental toughness and inability to close out matches. For example, looking at the three set matches she contested in 2011, she won 7 and lost 15.

She still has the shots in her artillery and has significantly improved her serve in recent years. I think she has lost a little consistency in her strokes, but the big factor for me is the loss of confidence she has suffered in the last couple of years.

Perhaps a couple of big wins against higher ranked opponents could trigger a revival. However, I think her chances of winning a Grand Slam are over 🙁

  2. James, in tennis you never know, but I agree, her chances of winning a GS have decreased by 80% at least 😛 Just like Safina’s (actually, Safina’s even more)!

  3. Hi guys, I am a JJ fan too. I went to IMG academy and saw her training there. I was working with Henner in Las Vegas after I came back. I worked with him for about 3 years and made MAJOR improvements! JJ almost beat Wozniaki!!! Henner will surely improve her game! I still work with Henner when he is back in town. They are great people, I know Henner and was lucky enough to meet Jelena, and they will work well together! I bet she will do really well at the 2012 French Open.
