Players honor Patty Schnyder's career in Istanbul ceremony

Switzerland’s Patty Schnyder retired from tennis this season after a first-round defeat at the French Open, which was her 59th appearance at a Grand Slam, and a tribute to her 17-year-long career was organized at the WTA Championships in Istanbul.

Retired tennis champion Mary Pierce handed Schnyder a career memory book, and in attendance were also Samantha Stosur, Istanbul finalist Victoria Azarenka, Katarina Srebotnik, Kveta Peschke and WTA Chairperson and CEO Stacy Allaster, whose contract with the Tour has recently been extended and she will lead women's tennis for another five years, until 2017.

Schnyder’s most successful tournament run was at the 2002 Charleston, where as an unseeded player she defeated Amelie Mauresmo, Mary Pierce, Serena Williams, and top seed Jennifer Capriati. She played a Grand Slam semifinal at the 2004 Australian Open and quarterfinals six times. Her biography also features eleven WTA singles titles and five doubles titles.

There was a pretty dramatic article in french press about Patty. Apparently she:
    1) disappeared (to make it more dramatic, first she got into an affair with some strange scientology guy, her father send a private detective after them and Patty got into an affair with the said detective. Then the detective was found to be some kind of a criminal, the international warrant was issued against him, but he and Patty disappeared…
    2) she's ruined.

Maggie, I took the time to read the lengthy article, but since it's in French I haven't understood it so well. You're saying that she was in affair with two men, with one of whom she's currently on the run? Hmm… What about her husband? There are no news in English except that she is financially devastated.
