Who will win Wimbledon 2011?

As our faithful reader P!nky suggested, I'm making a poll for Wimbledon, a bit reluctantly, though, as Roland Garros winner Li Na was not even included in my Roland Garros poll which featured twelve names. :P This time I've narrowed down my list a bit, but if the player you favor is not included, feel free to add her in the comments section.

Who will win Wimbledon 2011?

  • Maria Sharapova (41%, 443 Votes)
  • Serena Williams (16%, 177 Votes)
  • Caroline Wozniacki (12%, 126 Votes)
  • Venus Williams (8%, 92 Votes)
  • Li Na (8%, 90 Votes)

Li Na is here because grass is her good surface and she won the French Open recently, although she did lose early to Daniela Hantuchova at the AEGON International. Talking about Hantuchova, I think her current form gives her big credentials for this year's Wimbledon, although her retirement in the semifinal against Petra Kvitova at Eastbourne is worrying. Kvitova played the Wimbledon semifinals last year and this weekend she played the final of Eastbourne which she lost to Marion Bartoli. I wanted to give justice to Bartoli and include her as well, because she won on the grass of the Wimbledon tune-up, has had a great win-loss record recently and played the final of Wimbledon in 2007. Caroline Wozniacki is world No.1, so she has to make the list. Serena Williams is defending champion, although she didn't impress in the lead-up to Wimbledon, while her sister Venus won the tournament five times. And last but not least, the 2004 champion Maria Sharapova, who played impressively this clay-court season, and grass is her much better surface.

daniela can make quarters..but she's not favorite, the same as kvitova..I'm not gonna be surprised if serena, li na or venus wins! caroline?? if she makes 4round is gonna be too much!
but the player that for me is the favorite is not on your list..MARIA SHARAPOVA

  2. Lylux

In your list are only 3 winners of Grand Slam, plus 2 Runner Up, within all the main draw are just 3 winners of Wimbledon Serena, Venus AND Maria Sharapova,so Why María is not listed?

Guy, oh thanks for pointing that out! You see I included Sharapova in the article, but forgot to add her name to the poll! It was accidental. You can vote for her now. ;)

Though question, but i'll vote for Maria. She is in great form, this surface suits her better than clay, and she seems really motivated. I'm not saying she'll 100% win, but i'd love to and she has a big chance. Caroline? If she makes it to the quarters it will be big result, her game isn't for grass, and she didn't even play preparation tournament. Venus and Serena are a little bit rusty, but they can still go far. Daniela just doesn't have the head. And the others… not so confident.

i bet for li na.i think she will be the one to watch.as usual, no one think she can win or going to the final but she make it at australian open (final) and roland garros (won!!).last year she lost to serena because serena was so amazing that moment.for now, bot williams seem unable to bring their A game yet. i bet for li na!!

  6. Physics Games

I bet it will be either Serena of Li Na from china, the chinese in particular has been in amazing form lately clinching the French open , if she can maintain her form then it will be no surprise that she lifts the trophy at wimbledon as well. She along with serena the defending champion are my two picks for this year tournament, which also happens to be the 125 year of the championships.

  7. Physics Games

I bet it will be either Li Na or Serena , as Serena is so good that despite the fact that she is returning after, a long lay off, she will be in great form.Li Na with her french open success and formidable ground strokes will be even more dangerous on grass, so i believe it will be either one of them..

I have no idea who will win this year's Wimbledon. Williams sisters are always tough opponents to play against, but haven't really played any tournaments since last year's Wimbledon, but they can always impress, although they are out of their best form, they are still the strongest on grass, in my opinion. :)))

I'm going for Pavlyuchenkova to win!

I think she has a great draw, her game should be suited to grass and, with no firm favourite, I think she has a great chance (I've backed her at 40/1 ;) )

Sabine Lisicki for an outside shot, williams sisters will fade towards the end, id like wozniacki to win but i just dont think she has it.. So that leaves na li and sharapova and for me maria tops li so ill have to go with her.

Murray and her are two players who HAS to win a slam soon. I think Wozniacki will win either Wimbledon or USO! Venus is allso a favorite imo, Li Na is def allso a favorite! On the mens side i think Nadal will win again, Fed for sure won´t beat him by any means if he doesn´t play a couple of levels better than in round 1! The flat slice can work against Nadal, but not if it´s a mainweapon, Nadal will play a comfortable topspin forehand crosscourt most of the time and that will as we have seen a billion times before bother Fed very much i don´t think that Roger all in all looks as good on grass as on harcourt anymore, too defensive and fragile.
Conclution: Nadal and Wozniacki will win, Roger and Li Na or Venus close seconds.

Maria Sharapova is the favorite before the two german, Julia Görges and Sabine Lisicki. Long Shot:Daniela Hantuchova….

I'm late with my comment, but anyway… Since before the tournament began I've thought that either Serena or Sharapova would win Wimbledon and I'm sticking by that. Despite Serena being out for 11 months, you just can't bet against her and Sharapova is looking good. Lisicki is also incredibly dangerous, it wouldn't surprise me to see her in the semi-finals.
