Germany’s Julia Goerges reinforced her status of a dark horse for the French Open by defeating world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki, one of the favorites for the red clay Grand Slam, for the second time in 11 days.

Wozniacki won the title on the green clay of Charleston, and then on the red clay of Stuttgart she lost in the final to Julia Goerges 7-6(3) 6-3. Goerges, who has consequently climbed five spots in the rankings to a career-high of No.27, repeated the feat of upsetting the top-ranked player, taking Wozniacki out of the Mutua Madrid Open in the third round 6-4 1-6 6-3. The 22-year-old Goerges was much more productive in the department of winners, scoring 36 to Wozniacki’s 11, thus outweighing the 38 unforced errors compared to Wozniacki’s 21.

  1. It seems Caro just can’t play against these players. Yes, today she made a lot of erros, but most of them were caused by Julia constantly putting pressure on her strokes. I like Julia, she is pretty, plays attractive and has a good fighting spirit, so she could rise in the top 20 or even 10 soon. I’m not so sure of her GS chances, but she is definitely a dark horse now.

  2. I hope she performs well at RG….
she has the potential if she carries this form with her to RG….

but m really keeping my fingers crossed for kim clijsters…. i really want her to get healthy for RG and participate in it…
Hoping for a miracle to make her healthy soon enough.. and hope she can perform well at RG…

well for others i think stousr can make it back to the last 4 in RG if not the last 2. she has the game… but it depends on the day you are having…

rest hoping to have a good tournament with good matches to watch….

  3. On her twitter last nite, Caro mentioned she was playing Julia today and ‘was looking forward to it’ well, Woz didn’t the result she was expecting. It was amusing to see her so vulnerable when Julia hit high bouncing topspin moonballs to Caro’s backhand causing Woz to reach up and either return the ball for the UE or land short which Julia pounded with the forehand for the winner.

After matchpoint, Caro offered a brief frosty handshake and quickly moved on, a big difference from the last time they met. Their H2H is now 2-2, looks like we have a budding rivalry here.

Kim has already withdrawn from Rome so looks like she’ll skip RG this year as it’ll be difficult for her to get match fit without a prep.

    @ Mirjana
Agree that Julia has the looks and beautiful game to be a popular star. She’s good on hard and clay courts so no doubt she’ll climb higher in the rankings. 🙂

  4. next round, is up for nastya
I like julia for outsting caro
    but it’s nastya’s time 🙂

  5. Georges marched into the semis by beating Pavlyunchekova (I hope the spellings are correct) 64 62. She saved all the 6 break points she faced….
Lets see how she fares at RG…

    @ helen
Yup it was really very amusing to see when caro didn’t have answers to th high balls georges was hitting.
and yup kim has withdrawn from rome but she did go to the practice court yesterday… Lets hope some miracle can make her fit and healthy for the RG.

    @ mirjana
Nice site. Really appreciate your efforts. Keep up the good work

  6. I say Wozzy has no chance of winning RG, JJ hasn’t played well on clay but we shall see what Roma has to offer.
