All the quarterfinal matches at the Family Circle Cup have finished and we have our members of the final four: Caroline Wozniacki, Jelena Jankovic, Peng Shuai and Elena Vesnina.
World No.1 Wozniacki and 2007 Charleston champion Jankovic will clash in the first semifinal. The two high-profile players didn’t go through the quarterfinals with the same amount of difficulty: Wozniacki came from behind in both the second and third set to beat sixth seed Yanina Wickmayer 4-6 6-4 6-4, while No.3 seed Jankovic rolled past 18-year-old American Christina McHale 6-2 6-0. Still, Jankovic stated that the match wasn’t as easy:
The score looked pretty easy today, but the match was a lot tougher. My opponent played really well. She has a great serve and a pretty big forehand. Maybe I was better on the important points, especially at the start of the match. I took two long games and from then on I had the momentum. But she plays very well and she’s going to be a very good player in the future.
Jankovic leads Wozniacki 4-1 in head-to-heads, however, none of those meetings were played on clay. Also, it was Wozniacki who won their last match, and their only one this year.
The second semifinal will feature No.11 seed Peng Shuai and Elena Vesnina. Peng defeated Sania Mirza 2-6 6-2 6-2 in the quarterfinals, while Vesnina built on her third round upset over No.2 seed and defending champion Samantha Stosur with a 2-6 6-2 6-2 win over No.12 seed Julia Goerges. JJ will win. Caro has played two long matches, and I think JJ wil have the edge on a clay court.
And as the suprise package of 2011, I think Peng will also advance to the final!
Sam, I agree. JJ will win the match, but it won’t be easy. They are both grinders. I wanted a Mirza/Vesnina semi as well but you can’t have everything in life. Mirza played well but Peng was better. Mirza is still a good player. I think it will be a JJ/EV final
Despite being a huge supporter of Caroline, I also think that Jelena will win. Caroline needs to learn to slide! I don’t understand players who doesn’t manage to slide on clay, it’s so much fun!
Well, we were all wrong! She was so efficient during this match. Great victory!
I think this will be a test for Caroline. JJ is great on clay and even though Caroline is universal so far she’s not won anything on this surface (correct me if I’m wrong).
Well! Its Caro vs Vesnina in the final….JJ was beaten in straight sets…6-4, 6-4.
you are so slow in updating this blog, I think. Well if you did not notice, Caro won Charleston. And she lokks good too, I think.
Hehe everyone was wrong, I also thought JJ had the edge in this one.
Go Caro, I’m sorry, I know, I was too busy with some things… Caroline is ruling now, whoever likes it or not. This is her time and I hope she’ll be able to crown it with a Slam.
I have seen very little of the match, but I have seen two things that have little to do with it:
1)I think JJ’s dress is really ugly
2)The blu skirt and orange top work really well on Caro, I absolutely prefer when she wears top and skirt, they fit her body better than dresses 🙂
