Review of Caroline Wozniacki's official website

Caroline Wozniacki is top-ranked women's tennis player and her official website is a nice complement to her success and popularity. The website has simple and easily navigable design, and contains all the latest information about Caroline, including Caroline's own regular blog posts which update her fans on what she's doing and what she's up to.

Caroline Wozniacki's official website

Www.carolinewozniacki.dk, done in English and Danish, features an obligatory photo gallery, videos of Wozniacki (mostly related to her sponsors, though), as well as the section containing Wozniacki's appearances in newspapers. Supporting my claim that the website features the latest information on the Dane is the schedule section, which contains the list of tournaments Wozniacki is planning to play all the way until July 2011.

The thing I also like about the website is that it is easy to use, it loads fast, and you can find what you're looking for. I like when photos have descriptions, though, but I can overlook that right now.

The website also showcases links to Caroline's profiles on Twitter, YouTube and Facebook, great places to visit if you want more from Caroline.

What do you think of Caro's official website? Would you like to see some improvements?

Review of Samantha Stosur's official website

Samantha (Sam) Stosur - Official site of Australia's top female tennis player

Samantha Stosur’s official website nurtures simple, old-school and user-friendly design, without music and fleshy features. Large letters in the navigation menu clearly take you to Sam’s tournament schedule, news, photos, video, blog and biography.

In the right sidebar there is a welcome note and other things you may like to check back for – like Sam's current ranking, her upcoming tournament and match, and a link to Sam’s Facebook page, an obligatory feature nowadays. Sometimes there is also a drop-down menu containing archives dating back to December 2007.

Blog - Sam Stosur

Sam updates her blog from time to time, and in addition to giving first-hand behind-the-scenes information, she answers fan questions.

I like Sam’s website because it’s very straightforward and easy to use, which is, of course, most important.

Caroline Wozniacki needs more offense to defend her No. 1 ranking

Caroline Wozniacki

Can Caroline Wozniacki's defence substitute lack of offense in her game? Our guest blogger Merlisa Lawrence Corbett doubts.

In American Football it's often said that the best offense is a great defense. But in today's modern tennis game, offense keeps your opponent on defense and those who attack dominate those who defend.

On the women’s tour, Caroline Wozniacki relied on defense to secure the No.1 ranking. But is her defense enough to win a Grand Slam?

Wozniacki’s game is a throwback to the play of Chris Evert, who beat her opponents through consistency, often counter-punching competition until they succumb to unforced errors. But Evert was at her best when most of her opponents also hung out around at the baseline or played serve and volley. Read more »

WTA players and their mothers – Part 1

As you know, Women's Tennis Blog is currently on vacation, but I've prepared a number of interesting posts to keep you entertained while I'm away. Even though I won't be updating about tennis happenings in Brisbane, Auckland, Sydney and Hobart, I will give you a bunch of great posts and the first in the series is the compilation of photos of top women's tennis players and their mothers. Enjoy!

Caroline Wozniacki and her mom, Anna Wozniacki

Let's start with Caroline Wozniacki and her mother, Anna Wozniacki. Caroline is coached by her father, Piotr, who played professional soccer, but her mother was also an athlete, having played on the Polish women's national volleyball team.

Vera Zvonareva's mother Nataliya Bykova played field hockey and was a bronze medalist at the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games. You can read a very nice story Nataliya herself told a magazine about Vera's early life and the beginnings of her tennis career.
