New adidas adilibria line for 2011

Purple and green 2011 adidas Adilibria dress

We always use this period without tournaments to review tennis outfits from the season behind us, as well as to give you a glimpse of what top brands are planning for WTA players for the year to come. Thanks to Emily from WTA Tour Insight, I learned about the new adidas adilibria line whose most famous representatives are Ana Ivanovic and Daniela Hantuchova.

We have photos of two outfits from the line: the dress and the tank and skort. You may already know that I am a great fan of purple, and green is also towards the top of the list of my favorite colors, and since the colors are accompanied by nice details and good designs I absolutely love the 2011 adidas adilibria line. I can safely say that currently adilibria is the best women’s tennis fashion has to offer. Their yellow and red dresses, as well as the white and pink dresses (to name just a few), from the 2010 season were also beautiful. What do you think?

The tank and skort pictured above have the white and green version as well.

Additional info: Emily also shared some sketches of what Nike players may wear in 2011.

Announcement of contest winners, autographs of Radwanska and Azarenka

I have already organized a number of contests here on Women’s Tennis Blog and I got bored with the standard selection of winners, so I decided to try something new and the idea of making a video came to my mind.

With the help of my friend Dobrila, I filmed this video showing the selection of the winners of Agnieszka Radwanska's and Victoria Azarenka's autographs, that our reader John Bolan kindly sent me. We only filmed once and it is my first video appearance on the Internet, so be kind to my nervousness and a bit of clumsiness haha.

I would like to congratulate all of you who successfully predicted the winner of the WTA Championships and thank those who took part in the contest. Unfortunately, there could only be two winners, and for those who were not lucky this time, I’ll make sure to make more opportunities to win something in the future.

Caroline Wozniacki in adidas by Stella McCartney – 2010 fashion review

Caroline Wozniacki

This year we launched our well-known tennis fashion retrospections with Fila and Kim Clijsters, even though I first started working on the review of world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki’s outfits. The thing is that I was blinded by Wozniacki's beige, light gray and white so much that I couldn’t tell the difference among all the outfits, so I switched to Clijsters before finding the patience to look through all the similar designs adidas by Stella McCartney had in store for 2010.

Regular readers of this blog know that I am a huge fan of Stella McCartney and her work, including the colors she chooses for tennis clothes. This year, however, it was too much of similar colors, you have to really pay attention to detail to differentiate one dress from another.

The breath of fresh air arrived only at the end of the season, with the innovatively-designed black dress accompanied by lime bra and shorts underneath.

The only non-neutral color Wozniacki wore earlier during the season was for doubles matches. The two photos at the end of this post were taken at the US Open and you can see Wozniacki wearing a yellow shirt. Read more »

Ana Ivanovic: Roger or Rafa? – Roger

Ana Ivanovic had to quickly answer random questions by the WTA Tour and check out what her preferences are:

Maria Sharapova poses for InStyle Russia

Maria Sharapova will be on the cover of December 2010 issue of InStyle Russia. The magazine of course features more nice photos from the photo shoot and an interview with the tennis star.

It will be interesting to see what the bride-to-be is saying about the time she spends with her fiancé. Despite the engagement to Sasha Vujacic, marriage plans still do not overshadow Sharapova’s tennis objectives as the WTA Tour says, based on the interview, that Sharapova’s goal has always been to be the best in tennis and that will not change in 2011.

Besides life and tennis, Sharapova also talked about fashion, her love of beautiful clothes and photo shoots such as this one.

Breaking news: Serena Williams withdraws from Australian Open 2011

Serena Williams at the Australian OpenWhen Serena Williams withdrew from the Hopman Cup it was hinted that she could also skip the 2011 Australian Open, but now it is official that Serena will not be defending her title at the Grand Slam in Melbourne. The reason is again her foot injury, which has been standing behind her withdrawals from tournaments ever since she won Wimbledon in the middle of the past season.

Here’s part of Serena’s statement:

As I recently learned, pushing myself back into my intense training too early only caused me further injury and damage. While I desperately want to be back on the court and competing in the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, it is imperative for my health that I continue to work with my doctors to ensure my foot heals properly. This decision, though heavy on my heart, is the right one. I am praying for a healthy recovery and I promise my Aussie fans and my fans around the world that I will be back better than ever as soon as I can be.

As you can see, the actual moment Serena will finally come back to competitive tennis is still absolutely unknown. (source: Tennis Australia, photo: burntfilm)

Early photos of Serena and Venus Williams

Venus and Serena Williams childhood photo

We have shared with you so many photos of women's tennis players when they were kids, but strangely, we never got to feature the Williams sisters. There is an abundance of beautiful photos of this unprecedented pairing.

Kim Clijsters' Fila apparel in 2010

We are enjoying another sleepy period in women’s tennis, and according to our tradition we will use the off-season to review the on-court fashion in the tennis year behind us. This time we will start with Fila and their most successful representative in 2010 – Kim Clijsters.

The world No.3 played 12 tournaments including the Fed Cup, and won five WTA titles during the 2010 season (Brisbane, Miami, Cincinnati, US Open, WTA Championships) – that's pretty much every other tournament she played.

But let’s get back to her Fila clothes. Fila is probably the least feminine and the most sporty of all the major brands out there, but Clijsters wears it perfectly and I can't imagine her in anything else. Read more »

Serena Williams withdraws from Hopman Cup 2011

Serena Williams

The 2011 season has not even started and we have players withdrawing from the tournaments in the year to come. The Hyundai Hopman Cup, mixed doubles event to take place in Perth in January, will most probably not have Serena Williams in the field because of her well-known foot injury which has been preventing her from playing tournaments ever since Wimbledon.

Here’s what I read at Sportsnewsfirst.com.au:

Sportsnewsfirst.com.au understands Williams has told organisers she will not be attending the mixed team event because of injury, and they are now scrambling to find a replacement.

The American, who has fallen from No.1 to No.4 in the rankings during her time off, was seen last week in Miami on crutches, and with her right foot in big plaster. Though, she did recently take a photo of herself exercising in the gym (just days before Miami). (photo: Ralf Reinecke)

Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka raise money for children in Minsk

Caroline WozniackiVictoria Azarenka

World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki came to Minsk to play a charity exhibition match with good friend Victoria Azarenka on November 19. Thanks to Caroline’s Twitter updates we learned that upon her arrival to Belarus she had dinner with Victoria and her mother on Thursday evening and then in the morning the tennis stars had an emotional experience in the hospital for children with cancer. They were both touched by the kids and their warmth and Victoria said how she almost cried.

Afterwards, they had lunch with the Belarusian president. Finally, later on Friday they played the charity tennis match and it was a successful event – many people came to support the cause and a lot of money was raised for the kids (i.e. for the Republican Scientific Practical Center of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Baraulyany). I still have no info as to who won, but that is not even important. What's significant are the experiences of the players and the positive results their engagement brought.

Here are Victoria's words: "Mind-blowing experience. Caroline was amazing and again I can't thank her enough."

And Caroline said: "Amazing experience today playing with Victoria! Can’t describe how good that felt!" (photos: © Neal Trousdale)
