Kim Clijsters demolishes Ana Ivanovic in 59 minutes to advance to US Open quarters

Ana Ivanovic at the 2010 US OpenIn the Kim Clijsters vs. Ana Ivanovic fourth round US Open encounter all eyes were on Ivanovic as she was supposed to show that her confidence and form really are back. However, the Serb fell to the Belgian defending champion 6-2 6-1 in just 59 minutes.

After taking the first set, Clijsters raced to a 4-0 lead and soon wrapped up the match in which Ivanovic held serve only once. The former world No.1 Ivanovic admitted that the nerves crept in again and all we can hope for is that it was just a temporary failure in her recent improving form.

Venus Williams was challenged by Shahar Peer in the first set of their fourth round match, but the American had an easier time in the second set to win 7-6(3) 6-3. The third-seeded Williams will next face French Open champion Francesca Schiavone, who defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3 6-0 to reach her first US Open quarterfinal since 2003. Today's lost was pretty disappointing but the US Open was a huge success for Ana. 10 days ago we weren't even entirely sure if Ana was going to even play or not with her ankle injury and when she did play, not to many people had her making the 4th round. Considering Ana had failed to make it past the 2nd round of her previous 4 slams, this was a huge step forward for her. It's not just that she won 3 matches, it's the way she won them. She dominated pretty much in all 3 of her wins and has shown her form is on the way back. She still has a way to go but she is on the upward trend and that is good to see. Now I am very excited and interested to see how she does in the fall. No points to defend. Big opportunity for Ana. Ajde!

the queen of contrived fist pumps lost…once she meets a capable opponent she loses confidence.I think Ana is not that confident anymore she pretends to be confident when she really is not …same thing happened when she played JJ in Madrid and Venus at Wimbledon 09

I am disappointed with the way Ana lost. I expected that Ana will fight harder but agree with Curtis. She didn't train for a 10 days and 2010 USO was successful for Ana. Hope that she will keep training hard and improving her game (most of all ball toss). She will play Tokyo, Beijing and Luxembourg so she can gain more wins/points and improve her rankings/self-confidence.

Despite the result, I think it was an interesting match. I don't think Ana played that bad (but she made some really unnecesser errors in 2nd set), Kim is just a better player at this time, and she is in great form. Ana needs to stay focused and emprove that ball toss, it's really a weakness. The season is still running, so i wish her luck in the next tournaments. Ps. Ana added Seul to her tournament list.

Ana is slowly gaining ground, that's what is important. But her ball toss needs to be heavily improved. That is what really impedes her game.
