Ana Ivanovic at Cincinnati 2010Ana Ivanovic’s promising return to form in Cincinnati was making all the headlines and unbelievably all the hope of her resurgence got a bitter tone as the Serb retired injured from her semifinal against Kim Clijsters after playing just three games. We could have expected a meltdown, nerves, bad play, or whatever, but an injury! No way!

Ivanovic was trailing 2-1 when she made a return and hurt her ankle. She then received treatment and got back to the court, but couldn’t continue with the match. Nevertheless, the world No.62 Ivanovic will return to the Top 40 in the new rankings, but if the injury turns out to be serious she could well slip again. I hope the future will be favorable to Ana.

  1. Oh, this is such a pot luck. Poor Ana, but at least she’s proven that she still has it. Hope she will be OK for the US Open.

  2. Ana must be cursed or something. Every time something good happens (which rarely happens these days), it’s all spoiled by something bad. Why can’t this girl ever catch a damn break? It was so nice to see her so happy all week and enjoying tennis again. Now today she is in tears. My heart is absolutely broken. 🙁

  3. “Ana had an MRI scan following her injury-enforced retirement against Kim Clijsters in Cincinnati on Saturday. The results show that the 22-year-old suffered strained ankle ligaments rather than a bone fracture (on her way to hospital Ana commented that she had “felt something crack a little bit”).Ana will have further consultation and treatment in the coming days, at which time more details about her likely recovery time will emerge.” (source: Ana Ivanovic official website)
Well what can I say except – speedy but must of all completely recovery!

  4. Maja J, thanks for adding this piece of info. I hope Ana will have an easy recovery, and also, I hope the injury and its timing won’t have consequences on Ana’s morale.

  5. this is really bad for Ana ,she really is cursed.I remember last year at Wimbledon she was doing well and then she got injured .This will derail her preparation for the Open.I noticed that she was doing too much on her movement against Kim same with pova she was trying too hard to move all over the court.
That has put a nail on her chances of winning the Open, same with pova and Jankovic.

  6. QUOTE: “This is really bad for Ana ,she really is cursed” – bless her – not cursed just unlucky… 🙁

I do hope recovery is soon – a good tennis star.

    Tina
