Dinara Safina

Dinara Safina’s career has been going through a lot of hardships and the end of her downfall is not in sight, especially after the latest news that she has withdrawn from Wimbledon 2010 because of the lower back injury which has been bothering her for too long a time, since November.

The last year’s finalist Safina, who was to be seeded 20th this time, will be replaced in the draw by Melanie Oudin, while Stephanie Dubois entered the draw as a lucky loser.

  1. I think it’s better that she doesn’t play and takes a break for a while and recover completely, cause all the probable losses wouldn’t be good for her confidence.

  2. Not too surprised about this… and I’m so sad about Elena not participating in Wimbledon! I want her to get a GS!

  3. I’ve really become a fan of Safina in the last year and I feel so sorry for her that she was forced too make this decision. I hope she doesn’t rush back this time, because if the injury recurs again…well I just hope she won’t be forced to take a Sharapova-like break from the game. Injuries in this sport are so cruel.

Lilly, I completely agree with you about Elena. I think she’s the best player not to have won a slam. If she comes back fit and healthy and gets a good draw at the US Open I don’t see why she shouldn’t have a realistic chance there.

  4. Dinara’s career is going through a huge crisis, I think it’s bigger than Maria’s. Safina is more mentally fragile than Maria, which is reflected in the fact that Maria already has three Slams and Safina three finals.

  5. Yes Marija, I do agree about what you about her career crisis, it’s definitely a bigger deal than Masha’s was. I just keep thinking about Tatiana Golovin and what she went through, and now I think it’s safe to say that she’ll never play again. It’s been two and a half years already. Having said that, I don’t want to jump to conclusions, we really don’t know how Safina is going to cope with her injury or how her body will react every time she steps back onto the tennis court.

  6. She is looking worryingly bad this season. I think she should take a proper break from tennis to heal that injury well as it came back like third time this season. It’s the last thing she needs being a bit of a headcase 🙁
