Overview of Serena Williams' 2009 Nike outfits

The second retrospection of tennis outfits we're doing this off-season is dedicated to unquestionably the best player of the year – world No.1 Serena Williams.

Serena started the season in an elegant and neutral Nike dress for the Medibank International Sydney, and followed up with blue tones at the Australian Open, and slightly less stylish cut, if I may say. Still, she won the tournament, and that's the most important thing.

The Paris and Dubai dress looks appalling at first glance, but I got used to it after some time, and it actually accentuates Serena's strong temperament and experimental nature.

Spring was apparently an orange period and this Roland Garros outfit is one of my favorites of the season.

The Wimbledon outfit is fine, but doesn't give much to talk about, and not to mention the outfits for Stanford, Cincinnati and Toronto.

The US Open was marked by various combinations of pink and black, and I would pick the black US Open dress as Serena's best fashion choice of the 2009 season.

What do you think of Nike's and Serena's designs for 2009?

Looking at Serena's 2008 outfits, I think that this year's were better. Don't you agree?

i really like the stanford and beijing, that orange looks really beautiful on her. my least favourite is miami

do you think serena will wear the 2009 doha outfit at the medibank interational? i kinda think this years outfits are much more practical, but i think last years were alot classyer (is that even a word!) i loved the roland garros last year, and us open. my fav is beijing this year :D

  3. Dedric

My favorite outfit was Roland Garros. I also really liked Miami, Sydney, and the US Open. I think the pre and post US Open outfits are nice because they look very versatile. The Tour Championships looked very different.

  4. Mirjana

I also think her last years outfits were classier. My favourites this year are the ones she wore at Roland Garros and Tour Championships.

  5. Bróna

I think her outfits were far better this year. The Wimbledon and black US Open dresses were probably my favourites. Serena used a good variety of colour this year which made her outfits fresh and interesting. Last year's outfits had too much white and purple for me and the outfits didn't look the best on Serena either.

  6. Lilly

My favorite's the Sydney one. nice lines looks good on her. She seems to love being fashionable and stylish, but it doesn't really come out in her tennis outfits, does it? They're alright, but not flashy. And the tailoring/outfit seems to always be the same, just a change in color. She's either got a tank top or cap-sleeve.

Serena "has been placed on an unprecedented two-year probationary period at Grand Slam events. She will have to pay an $82,500 fine and avoid a "major offense" at the next eight major events or the fine would increase to $175,000 and she would be barred from the following U.S. Open."

This is crazy!! 2 years probation? As the article on Yahoo sports says this IS unprecedented and crazy. But at least not as bad as $1m.

I like Serena´s outfits especially from Sydney, Roland Garros and US Open. Serena was wearing (I mean this year) almost the same style, which in she feels comfortable and look good :)

Jacob, I find the Stanford outfit too ordinary, the color is bright and refreshing, but that's about it. The same for Beijing. I'm glad you like the retrospection. :) It's possible she'll wear the Doha outfit next season as well. Not sure. I have no confirmation.

Dedric, Roland Garros is my second favorite.

Mirjana, classier? Could be. These new ones seem more interesting to me. Last year's Roland Garros dress was a really good choice, and the one for the Olympics was cute, because of the colors.

Nacho, I can understand your reaction. :)

Bróna, it could be that we find this year's outfits more interesting because Serena wore more outfits this year. I just counted the pictures – last year 13, this year 15. Plus, the difference between this year's IS greater.

Lilly, the Sydney dress brings a lot of femininity I think. I would say her tennis outfits are flashy enough, they are not just ordinary, like Safina's for example.

Pietaar, I see many of you like the Beijing outfit. Don't know, I just think it's too simple.

Bb, don't be like that. How can you not like any of them?

LuLinQa, I will have Azarenka in mind, just for you. ;)

Marija, maybe you're right. I'm not a huge fan of Serena's outfits anyway, I don't like the colours she chooses or the style she wears. I would also be grateful if you considered Victoria Azarenka :) What about JJ? She is your favourite :P

Cool, I'll feature Vika. I've been planning to feature her too, although she's not my favorite on the fashion department, that's for sure. She may even be my least favorite.

Marine, I'll have Elena in mind. She deserves a retrospection, I've never done a yearly overview of her outfits.
