Aravane Rezai won the biggest title of her career playing against Marion Bartoli in an all-French final of the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions in Bali.

Of course, injuries where not avoided this time either, with top seed Bartoli retiring in tears because of a left quadriceps strain after losing the first set 7-5. Rezai had actually rallied from a set point down at 3-5 in the opening set.

“I’d prefer to win in a different way, but it’s tennis, a lot of different things happen,” said the 22-year-old Rezai after winning the showcase of the up-and-coming stars of women’s tennis.

  1. Yeah, I was watching. I love the surface, it’s really fast and the colors are amazing. And there’s no tram lines, I play on courts like that sometimes. 😛

I always knew Marion was going to retire after blowing those set points, yes she cried, but whatever.

  2. i don’t know i dont wanna be mean but i think this is a nonsense tournament! the wta tour year should end with the masters!! i don’t know!

  3. I think it would make more sense for the Bali tournament to precede the Sony Ericsson Championships. Wouldn’t it, Nacho? So that we have the greatest tournament in the end.

  4. totally agree with you marija save “the best” for the end!! and i say “the best” because this yer was really dissapointing.

  5. If I remember correctly, when this tournament was called “Virgina Slims” the top 16 players qualified for the tournament. I don’t like this format that it has now because you don’t even get to see all the top 10 players in action. This year we did due to injuries. You are right Ms. Marija the best should be left for last.
