Justine Henin

Justine Henin has been granted a wildcard entry to the 2010 Australian Open, the Grand Slam she won in 2004.

The Belgian is planning to revive her tennis career at the start of the 2010 season, and her coach, Carlos Rodriguez, said last week that she would probably kick it off at the Brisbane International starting January 3rd.

The seven-time Grand Slam titlist, who was ranked No.1 for 117 non-consecutive weeks, including the day she retired (May 14, 2008), will need wildcards or qualifications to play in the main draw. (photo: Ralf Reinecke)

  1. That’s great news! I was positive they would grab the opportunity and give her WD, what would be AO without the Queen of tennis???? :0)

  2. It will be great to see Henin again. I fell in love with her backhand and general play at the Wimbledon final in 2001. I heard she was also trying to get a WC into at least one of the warm up tournaments. It will be interesting to see how she fares since she will have a shorter time to prepare for the Open than Clijsters had for the US Open.

  3. Henin is playing in the Brisbane International alongside Clijsters, Ivanovic and Dokic. I’m really interested to see who does better in their comeback, Justine or Kim. If Justine betters what Kim has already done it will be outstanding. I have to admit that I think Kim will be the more successful overall though.

  4. Can’t wait. I was expecting a WC for Justine. Love her! Hope she does well in her return. Love Kim and Justine, but I think it’ll be harder for Justine to do as well since the US Open was the last event of the year, and Kim had more time to prepare, whereas at the beginning of the year, players are typically refreshed and ready to play. But I wish both of them success.

  5. I’m so happy. I hope she comes to medibank international aswell, it would be a honour to watch her play. I was dissapointed to see her retire and not see her in action, when you see tennis matches in real life, and they retire, you are able to say “wow – i watched her play”

In my case i watched on of the greatest matches this year (i believe) Serena vs Stosur at Medibank. I saw Ai and hantuchova aswell, which was great. I hope Justine goes well at the tournaments, and gets into the second week at the Aussie Open.
