No end to Ana Ivanovic’s woes, upset in Tokyo round one

Ana IvanovicAna Ivanovic’s slump is still strong, as she followed her first-round loss at the US Open with a first-round exit at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

The Serbian world No.11 Ivanovic was buried under a deluge of unforced errors and Czech Lucie Safarova defeated her 6-4 7-6(1).

"I know how Ana is feeling and I feel it with her," said Safarova, who is now tied at 2-2 in career meetings with Ivanovic. "She's struggling with her serve and when that goes, all your game goes."

Additional info: World No.10 Flavia Pennetta of Italy fell to compatriot Roberta Vinci 6-1 6-2 in the opening round, and was the first Top 10 member to exit the $2 million tournament, featuring nine of the world's Top 10 women’s tennis players. (source: Reuters, photo via Sony Ericsson WTA Tour)

Ana should just call it quits for the season. Seriously, what is the point of going to Beijing and getting her ass handed to her again? It's only hurting her fragile mental game even more. Go home, get a new full time coach and see a shrink and do a little soul searching.

2010 is make or break for Ana. This is getting pathetic.

    Well for any Ana lovers,

This is her part official reason:

"Ana, seeded 10th here, has been suffering from a throat infection since her arrival, and never looked comfortable on the court. She fought gamely, but her timing was never there, even when she led 3-0 in the second set."

I believe she had a throat infection, but reject it as a justification for her loss, or tragic descension from what was to be a glittering glamourous throne from the pinnacle of Women's tennis just last year.

i agree, i feel that she should play beijing next week and take a break for the rest of the year. she should see a therapist for her mental state and also hire a coach that can hopefully help her get back to her winning ways like the first half of 2008. 2010 will tell how mentally tough and strong she can be after a disappointing couple of monthes. she needs to build confidence off any win she gets, whether its over a top 10 player or a top 50 player, any win can help

She needs to step back and give herself a proper break. She is a great player but maybe she has a little burn-out. Well, she 's also just human in the end of the day. I think she and Dinara should gove on a long holiday :0)

What happened to Ana? It seems that 2009 broke her down to the ground. She's got game, but does she have the maturity or mental game to make a good showing in 2010??? She desperately needs a break or a new coach or a new racquet, or even a new profession. She's off my radar for sure. So sad.
