Kim Clijsters crowns comeback with US Open title

What a way to start a comeback! Playing only her third tournament after taking a two-year break and starting a family, wildcard Kim Clijsters went all the way to the US Open title, and from an unranked player she'll soon become No.19, according to projections.

I suppose that everyone, except Denmark, rooted for the 2005 US Open champion Clijsters in this final, and despite her ranking and lack of match play, the Belgian was favored to defeat the first time Grand Slam finalist, No.9 seed Caroline Wozniacki. That was exactly what happened, and Clijsters clinched title with a 7-5 6-3 victory.

Nevertheless, congrats to the 19-year-old Wozniacki for making the finals and becoming the first Dane, man or woman, to reach the finals of a Grand Slam in the Open Era.

On route to the title Clijsters defeated Viktoriya Kutuzova, No.14 seed Marion Bartoli, Kirsten Flipkens, No.3 seed Venus Williams, No.18 seed Li Na, No.2 seed Serena Williams and finally No.9 seed Caroline Wozniacki.

The 26-year-old Clijsters has become the first mother to win a Grand Slam title since Evonne Goolagong Cawley, who won Wimbledon in 1980. (photo via Life.com)

The entire global tennis community hails the now official 'Queen of Comeback, Kim Clijsters'!

and plus, Jada is so cute!

Mrs. K.C. took out 5 players in the top 20 including three players in the top ten in rout to
    take the championship.

By no means this match was a classic. The first set was close because Mrs. K.C. committed too many unforced errors. Wozzy had a chance serving out the set being up 5-4. She didn't and from that point on I knew that Mrs. K.C. would win the match in two sets.

The conservative style that Wozzy plays didn't cut it today, and for the second straight year this style of play has not been successful in the U.S. Open final.

I agree with you Ms. Zuleika Jada is soooo cute.

Looks like Wozzy did break the Stella McCurse, I wonder what witch or warlock or witch doctor she visited, that helped take away the McCurse. :P

No Mr. Carlos, because previously Stella McCartney by Adidas © was cursed by true beauty… as many suggest.

Do you guys like Carawoz's new 'look'?

Anyhow the Carawozza failed my expectations, there was no real brilliance or distinction in her game, she seemed like a junior returning practise shots. But of course, she must be commended for consistency.

Ms. Zuleika, I said this previously, Kirilenko looked great in Stella's outfits but the McCurse tanked her career. There was a point the McCurse was affecting Sweet Wozzy (L.A. out in the first round). :P

As far as how Caro looked, she looked like she stopped at a beauty salon on her way to stadium. :P

Actually Wozzy played the final better than I expected.

I agree, Carawoz re-invented herself, the brows, the eye makeup, the foundation, the extra bold nails, the very, very, very, obvious watch… but she doesn't achieve the natural grace of Ivanovic or Sharapova, more so, reminding me of Jankovic- adn that time Jankovic's mascara lumps were caught in her eye (AO 09) and she couldn't play and had to get eye drops- lol-. I think she's a great now [successful] ambassador for the line.
