The tournament started with a scare for eleventh-seeded Ana Ivanovic, as she advanced to the second round after recovering from a set and a break down against world No.47 Magdalena Rybarikova, to win 2-6 6-3 6-2. Eighth seed Caroline Wozniacki still hasn’t played any matches at the 2009 Rogers Cup, having received a first round bye.
