On Thursday night Maria Sharapova attended a dinner party for her sponsor Cole Haan at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. Of course, that event wouldn’t have been so interesting to mention if she hadn’t been photographed leaving the party with rumored boyfriend Charlie Ebersol.

There is also a short video from the night:

Sharapova’s look has been quite experimental and daring lately. At the Cole Haan party the tennis star wore blue dress from Thakoon's fall 2009 collection accessorized with a chunky necklace.

What do you think of Sharapova’s style? I’m not a huge fan, she looks much older, but as always, Maria can get away with it. However, Maria's fashion is way less questionable than Charlie's "shoes". (source: Siberian Siren)

Jankovic is by far the highest-ranked player left in the tournament after Serena Williams lost in the first round to Klara Zakopalova. By the way, the 95th-ranked Zakopalova progressed further, beating Renata Voracova in the second round.

Dinara Safina to take Serena Williams' No.1 ranking

Dinara SafinaCurrent world No.2 Dinara Safina will overtake Serena Williams at the top of the new Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings to be published on April 20.

Serena will lose the No.1 spot because of suffering an upset in the first round of the Andalucia Tennis Experience. The injured American was defeated by 95th-ranked Klara Zakopalova, the Czech who had only won two Tour matches in 2009 before this week.

Here’s what Safina said about the news:

It's a great honor to reach the number one ranking and it is a dream that every girl who has ever wanted to play professional tennis shares. It is even extra special for me since my brother Marat was able to reach the number one ranking (in 2000) and I am happy to share this achievement with him. There's no question that while I am very proud of my results over the past year, I would have liked to reach this achievement in a different manner. I hope to prove to everyone over the coming months that I merit the honor of being world number one.

Jelena Jankovic wins opener at the Andalucia Tennis Experience

Jelena JankovicJelena Jankovic dropped her last two opening matches, at the BNP Paribas Open and Sony Ericsson Open, but her much-needed confidence could get a little boost as she defeated Francesca Schiavone in the first round of the inaugural Andalucia Tennis Experience.

Second seed Jankovic needed 62 minutes to get past the world No.47 Schiavone, giving away only three games to beat the Italian 6-2 6-1.

In the first set Jankovic established a 3-0, and even though Schiavone won the next two games, Jankovic didn’t spoil the lead she had earned and took the first set. The world No.4 faced no break points in the second set. (photo: Ralf Reinecke)
