Virginie Razzano, Kaia Kanepi, Venus Williams and Serena Williams reached the semifinals of the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships on Thursday.

France’s Virginie Razzano, who upset world No.2 Dinara Safina in the second round, defeated fifth seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva 7-6(7) 7-5 to advance to the final four where she’ll face Estonian Kaia Kanepi.

Seed No.16 Kanepi is expected to become the first Estonian to break into the world’s top 20 after following up her victory over Jelena Jankovic by ending qualifier Elena Vesnina’s run in Dubai, defeating her 6-3 7-5.

Sixth seed Venus Williams went past seed No.4 Elena Dementieva 6-3 6-3, while Venus’ younger sister Serena, ranked 1st in the world, beat Ana Ivanovic 6-4 6-4 in the last quarterfinal. Ivanovic leveled at 2-2 after being two games down in the first set, and was even leading 3-0 in the second, but Serena bettered the Serb to set up a semifinal with sister Venus.

  1. The first of all, Razzano! She was terrific. I really love to watch tennis, and she made my day. I do not know, but her emotional game touch me like an artistic thing. :)Bravo Razzano. She made fantastic winners.

My love is Venus, yes. I love her net play. Fantastic match!

But Serena is the best player! She was an amazing. Wow, what a tennis! Superb play of both players. I think this is the best Ana’s match from Roland Garros.

  2. Serena was awesome indeed she showed that she is a legitimate no.1.Ana A game was not good enough for Serena B game,Serena looked lethargic and Ana couldnt capitalize.
    Awesome match indeed!

  3. Good matches overall. It’s nice to see Ana playing close to her best, even if she didn’t win. I agree Marija, I think Serena will win the whole thing.

  4. Serena said these players bring their best when playing her and she is right,Ana was trying to be aggressive but Serena remained calm and let Ana implode.
Serena played the big points better and showed that even when she is not her best she can still win.
This tournament has clearly showed us that Serena is the true no.1 and this bring respectability to the tour.

  5. To me Venus is the one playing the best most lethal tennis. Her net game has been outstanding this tournament and if she can continue to lift on the big points I think she might just take out Serena and should beat the finalist comfortably.

  6. Ana’s new coach seems to be helping Ana’s game very much. Very good news.

Tennis Lover, it depends on where you are from. I’m watching Dubai on Eurosport.
