Unlike struggling compatriot Ana Ivanovic, world number one and top seed Jelena Jankovic cruised past Austria’s Yvonne Meusburger 6-1 6-3 to move into the second round of the 2009 Australian Open.

The Serb defeated the 104th-ranked Meusburger in 69 minutes. Jankovic easily won the first set, while the second set was longer and more difficult, but still at no moment was her win questioned.

Since the Austrian wasn’t too much of a challenge for Jankovic, let’s switch our focus from tennis to JJ’s new apparel. As you know, in this first-round match Jankovic was premiering the clothes of her new sponsor, the Chinese brand called ANTA.

What do you think of JJ’s Australian Open dress?
I find it good, but I was hoping for something more extraordinary. The color is fresh and looks nice in the Australian sun, although it took me some time to get used to it. I don’t really like the back of the dress; it looks as if Jankovic herself was sewing the pieces of material together. Also, I believe some other design would showcase Jankovic’s beautiful figure much better. All in all, I can’t say the outfit is ugly, but I’m already bored with it.

  1. simple…very simple….love the color, hmph, noty really,….just okay…..average………

    nothing too special……….but not boring………..

love to see what maria kirilenko wears, i know what serena will wear now, love to see venus, and ana is donning the adilibria dress……..

  2. Jelena looks satisfied with her new dress, but not with her sneakers too. After the match she told that her feet were burning. On the match you could see that she was putting ice on her feet. I like the dress, it’s nice.

  3. The colour looks great on her and the design is nice and simple. Im sure we will get some more flashy outfits later on in the year, She probably has had little or no input into this dress. On the other hand Kirilenko’s dress was absoloutly stunning one of the all time best tennis outfits IMO. Its was so pretty and feminine. Its a shame she just isnt that great a player. She is becoming a bit of a liability for Stella and Adidas.

  4. I really like Jelena’s dress! It’s very simple, just like it should be-this is tennis, not a fashion show! And I really like the back of the dress… I think it looks great on her! But the most important thing is that her game was quite good and I think (and hope:) we’ll see her play even better! Go JJ!!! And keep that smile on your face!;)

  5. kirilenko’s dress was gorgeous, unfortunately i need to say “was” as she again lost too early. ahhh.

oh, i hope those sneakers won’t be a problem for jelena, it worries me. i didn’t notice she was affected, but i also heard she said her feet were burning. not a good sign.

all in all, i can see jelena’s new clothes are not a mishit, we mostly find them from very good to average, which is not bad for a start.

i agree, ivana, i’m pleased her game was very good, and she easily advanced. what she’s wearing is not that important, as long as she feels comfortable.
