Jelena Dokic reaches Australian Open wildcard play-off semifinals

Jelena DokicJelena Dokic defeated teenager Brittany Sheed 6-2 6-2 in Friday’s quarterfinals of the Australian Open wildcard play-off.

It took the former world No.4 just 53 minutes to cruise to victory. She broke serve in the first game, and was in control throughout the match, apart from the one occasion of dropping serve in the second set.

We’ll be following Dokic’s progress, I’m very interested in whether she’ll make it. (source: The Sydney Morning Herald, photo: Ralf Reinecke)

Video overview of all Maria Kirilenko’s 2008 Stella McCartney outfits

After making a text version of the overview of all Maria Kirilenko’s 2008 Stella McCartney on-court outfits, we did a little different one, in video form. Those of you who subscribed to our YouTube channel or joined our Women’s Tennis Fans group on Facebook have probably already seen the video.

As you may know, Ana Ivanovic was also honored with the retrospection of her 2008 adidas outfits in both text and video.

There are more such posts to come in both video and text forms. We have already included Venus and Serena Williams, as well as Maria Sharapova, while Daniela Hantuchova, Jelena Jankovic and Amelie Mauresmo are planned to be featured soon. Stay tuned!

Ana Ivanovic training in Australia, no sight of Fernando Verdasco

Ana IvanovicAna Ivanovic is now in Australia preparing for the start of the 2009 tennis season, and to our surprise, her boyfriend Fernando Verdasco still hasn’t joined her, at least it seems so.

Ivanovic is calling the Sunshine Coast home for the next two weeks and was seen running kilometers with her Sydney trainer Scott Byrnes through Noosa's national park.

While Ana and Fernando were spotted training together in Spain, he still hasn’t been seen next to Ana in Australia, although we’re expecting him to arrive since he’s playing January’s Brisbane International as well as Ana. (source: Queensland Newspapers, photo: Ralf Reinecke)

More Serena Williams’ crazy moments, video proof

Has Serena Williams gone nuts because of her breakup with Common or has she been this silly all the time?

Just days ago Serena gave us insight into her comical training regime, and now we see this hilarious video footage. Hahahhahaah, thank you Serena, you really made me laugh!

And thank you C Note for letting me know about this priceless video.

Lindsay Davenport pregnant with second baby, no Australian Open

Lindsay DavenportJust days after we learnt that Lindsay Davenport would compete at the 2009 Australian Open, the news comes out that the American is pregnant with second child, and is therefore setting her career aside.

"Of course this unexpected but exciting surprise now means I will be putting tennis on hold for the foreseeable future," Davenport said in a statement issued Wednesday by her agent.

Davenport has a son, Jagger, who was born in June 2007. The three-time Grand Slam singles champion and former world number one then returned to the tour and added another four titles to her resume. (source: ESPN, photo: Getty Images)

Jelena JankovicWorld number one Jelena Jankovic was honored Wednesday as the International Tennis Federation's world champion of 2008.

All Venus Williams’ 2008 EleVen outfits

Venus Williams graduated in fashion design from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and has her own EleVen clothing line which she herself wears on the tennis courts. Let’s see what our seven-time Grand Slam champion designed for the 2008 tennis season.

Here’s a short note: Venus Williams was switching back and forth with her outfits throughout the year and it gave me a hard time in compiling this retrospection. For example, at the US Open she wore the black dress she later sported at the Sony Ericsson Championships in Doha. However, I worked a lot to make this retrospection as precise as possible.

Video overview of all Ana Ivanovic’s 2008 adidas outfits

Since my retrospections of players’ 2008 outfits have been well-received (so far we've featured Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic and Maria Kirilenko), I decided to experiment a bit and make videos out of them. The first one to get the honor was Ana Ivanovic with her adidas designs. Enjoy!

Of course, I’m still working on my retrospections in the text form. Don’t worry I didn’t forget about your wishes to see Venus Williams, Jelena Jankovic and Amelie Mauresmo, but I just couldn’t resist the urge to experiment with video a bit. :) I hope you like it.

By the way, feel free to subscribe to Women’s Tennis Blog’s channel on YouTube to get the video updates firsthand, and also don’t forget to join Women’s Tennis Fans group on Facebook where we're also posting the videos.
