Maria Sharapova declared as the biggest hit on Yahoo in 2008
Maria Sharapova is officially the most searched athlete on Yahoo in 2008, and the only tennis player that made the list.
Not that it is surprising, but it is interesting since Sharapova has not played a tennis match since the Rogers Cup in late July. The Russian was not passive in other areas of life though, she has been working on her modeling career very determinedly.
This year was highlighted by the Olympics, but interestingly, the first three spots were occupied by non-Olympians. Not even Michael Phelps could make it onto the medal stand, despite accomplishing the greatest individual feat in Olympic Games history.
