Jelena Jankovic

Jelena Jankovic gave herself only three weeks of rest. The world No.1 is already training for the 2009 season, and for the preparations she chose the high altitude of San Luis in Mexico.

Jankovic seems to be taking the upcoming tennis season seriously. I wish her good luck and an addition of a Grand Slam title to her biography. (source: El Son de San Luis, via Forty Deuce, photo: Ralf Reinecke)

The tennis star is explaining what makes someone cool:

You are a cool person when you don't gossip about others, and when you accept them and their weaknesses as a part of your society.

The aim of the campaign is to increase tolerance and compassion among children. (via Ana Ivanovic's official website)

Jelena Jankovic meeting President of Serbia Boris Tadic

Jelena Jankovic and President of Serbia Boris TadicOn November 14, Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic had a meeting with Boris Tadic, the President of her home country, followed by an exclusive reception honoring the tennis star’s achievements in 2008.

"I'm very proud of myself for all I have accomplished in 2008," said the world No.1 Jankovic. "I worked very hard and fulfilled the dream I had since I held a tennis racquet in my hands for the first time. I can't find the right words in this moment. I remember the time when I was 10-years-old and trained in a cold balloon on Red Star courts at 6am. Thank you all for the support; my dream came true."

The meeting and reception, which took place at the Hyatt Hotel in Belgrade, were sponsored by the Serbian Tennis Federation. Jankovic got a plaque commemorating her achievements and a reward. She also received gifts from designer Roberto Cavalli and a bouquet of flowers from fellow Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic.

Jelena Dokic to prepare for Australian circuit

Jelena DokicJelena Dokic will return to Melbourne next week to prepare for the Australian circuit, training with the Richmond Football Club's elite performance manager Matt Hornsby.

The 25-year-old Dokic is expected to perform much better than was the case 11 months ago when she had played just one satellite-level match. From being an unranked player, Dokic returned to the top 180 in the world and Australia’s best four during the 2008 season, and will not have to rely on a discretionary invitation into the Australian Open wildcard play-off at Melbourne Park from December 15-21.

"It's more just consulting and helping her with her overall program in the lead-in to the summer, and then doing maybe two or three individual sessions a week, as well," Hornsby said. "Jelena wasn't someone that I had to push to train, it was always easy to train her, and so I'm happy to help her out — she was very professional the way she went about it."

I can’t wait to see how Dokic will perform next season. The 2008 one was a successful warm-up, with the former world No.4 winning three ITF tournaments: Florence, Caserta and Darmstadt. (source: The Age, photo: Ralf Reinecke)

Ana Ivanovic on cover of Switzerland’s Regio Aktuell magazine

Ana Ivanovic on cover of Switzerland’s Regio Aktuell magazine

World No.5 Ana Ivanovic is on the cover of the November issue of Regio Aktuell magazine in Switzerland.

WTA players seem too be compensating lack of tennis with magazine covers. This latest cover of Ana Ivanovic adds to Elena Dementieva’s appearance in Russian Marie Claire and Maria Sharapova’s in Spanish GQ – and these three are the ones mentioned in the past five days only. Tennis players seem to be doing good.

There is an interview with Ivanovic in Regio Aktuell, but quite frankly, it doesn't reveal anything we haven't already known. She talks about Basel, her idol, and a bit about her tennis career.

Quiz: How well do the Willams sisters know each other?

Venus and Serena Williams appeared in a quiz during Wimbledon 2008. The sisters were answering multiple choice questions meant to test how well do they really know each other. The Williamses didn’t disappoint. Enjoy the quiz!
