Radwanska slams tennis ball into Jankovic’s face

Agnieszka RadwanskaOnly in a drawing, luckily!

Look how Agnieszka Radwanska portrayed her colleague world No.1 Jelena Jankovic.

Well, Agnieszka did present Jelena’s movement and hairdo very well, but the ball in the face should have been left out. Why would she draw Jelena like that and look so proud showing the drawing!

As for the tennis fans, opinions about Aga’s work of art differ (the following ingenious comments were mostly taken from Forty Deuce).

Some people find it extremely funny:

I saw this about half an hour ago and my reaction can pretty accurately be quoted as "LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!" – Carrie

That is so wrong but so hilarious. – CMS

The Polish No.1 has become a favorite for some:

Today will forever be known as the day Agnieszka Radwanska became a favorite of mine.

The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour launches website in Mandarin

The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour launches website in MandarinThe Sony Ericsson WTA Tour has launched its brand new Mandarin website — the Tour's first ever non-English language website.

It will feature all of the news of their English language website as well as a variety of original content.

Chinese tennis players have been prominently successful in the last few years, and it seems they have just begun their rise. In addition, the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour recently opened its Asia-Pacific Headquarters in Beijing and from 2009 on, the Tour will have major presence and expansion into China market. The new website is just a justification of the increasing presence of tennis in China.

Ivanovic, Radwanska unhappy about WTA Tour’s 2009 Roadmap calendar

Ana IvanovicThe Sony Ericsson WTA Tour’s 2009 Roadmap calendar features drastic differences to the current one and some tennis players expressed their dissatisfaction.

The aim of the historic reforms and the new calendar is to create a more fan friendly and healthier system, to more consistently deliver stars to top events and reduce withdrawals. But do players agree?

Ana Ivanovic and Agnieszka Radwanska believe that the new rules are constraining the players too much.

The WTA’s new Roadmap is supposed to reduce the number of tournaments and shorten the season for the players’ benefit, but here’s what Ana Ivanovic thinks:

"I do believe it’s going to be a lot of tournaments we have to commit to and it’s maybe going to be a little bit harder in that sense. We don’t have much opportunity to choose, and at the end of the day it might be that we play more matches than we did in previous years. Read more »

Venus Williams beats Flavia Pennetta for Zurich Open crown

Venus Williams wins Tennis.com Zurich Open trophyThird seed Venus Williams defeated Italian Flavia Pennetta 7-6(1) 6-2 in the final of the $600,000 Tennis.com Zurich Open to claim her second singles title of the year and 38th career title.

The 2008 Wimbledon champion also won the Zurich title in 1999, while still a teenager.

The Tennis.com Zurich Open final was the first in four times that Venus Williams defeated Flavia Pennetta. The Italian, however, still leads their head-to-head series 3-2. Pennetta, who is expected to rise to a new career-high ranking of 14, was trying to become only the third player to beat Williams for a fourth straight match, after conquering her in Bangkok in 2007, then at Roland Garros and Moscow this year.

With the victory in her 60th career final Williams is expected to qualify for the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships in Doha.

Venus Williams overcomes Ana Ivanovic for Zurich Open final

Venus WilliamsThird seed Venus Williams edged past second-seeded Ana Ivanovic 4-6 6-3 6-4 in the semifinals of the Tennis.com Zurich Open.

Ivanovic may have lost the match, but the Serbian world No.4 could consider the defeat a sort of victory as she produced probably her best performance since winning Roland Garros in June. In the match against seven-time Grand Slam champion, Ivanovic was a challenging opponent and seemed quite recovered from whatever problems forced her string of disappointments in the recent past.

Ivanovic went toe-to-toe with Williams, and even fearlessly saved three successive match points in the third set, but four first serves in the following game by the 28-year-old American were too much for Ivanovic.

The 25-year-old Pennetta, who upset top-ranked Jelena Jankovic in the second round, reached her fourth final of the year. In 2008 the Italian has won two titles: Vina Del Mar and Acapulco.
