Jelena Jankovic to wear yellow at the 2008 US Open

Jelena Jankovic Reebok dress for 2008 US Open

World number two Jelena Jankovic and Reebok collaborated again and for the 2008 US Open they came up with this yellow dress. I like the color, it makes the dress look gentle and fresh.

This Reebok piece is Jankovic's second custom dress, the first one was for the Beijing Olympics. (via Down the Line)

Flashback – Remember this Ana Ivanovic?

I came across this video, and hahaha look at Ana. This could even go under my series Tennis Players When They Were Kids, even though this was not so long ago, Ana has changed so much (fortunately)! I mean, compare this! Her English sounds more like Serbian, she looks too nervous, and although she’s cute she’s way better now.

It's been a while since I last added a photo to our series about how women's tennis players looked when they were kids. Today I decided to feature Elena Dementieva, the gold medalist at the recently-finished Olympic Tennis Event in Beijing. Read more »

Adidas inspired by Ana Ivanovic, shoes for 2008 US Open

adidas

At the 2008 US Open Ana Ivanovic will wear specially designed adidas shoes, a unique feminine version of the Barricade V – the Barricade V Summer Slam. In addition, the shoes will have this playful graphic of the world No.1, pearlized white on white, which stretches across the upper side of the shoe.

As for the outfit, I believe Ivanovic will wear the adidas piece shown in the photo after the cut. Read more »

Amelie Mauresmo continues to rise with Patty Schnyder upset

Amelie MauresmoFormer world number one Amelie Mauresmo seems to be starting a new, better life on the Tour as she reached the quarterfinals of the Pilot Pen Tennis presented by Schick in New Haven and continued her recent revival.

Mauresmo, currently ranked 33rd, upset fifth seed Patty Schnyder 6-4 3-6 7-6 saving a match point on the way to victory.

Mauresmo’s year was struck by injuries and low self-esteem but she seems to be getting back on track: "These are the kind of matches I have been losing in the last year. At some point it affects your confidence, so to win one like this is good and hopefully I can build from here."

The Frenchwoman will next face fourth seed and last year’s finalist Agnes Szavay of Hungary. (source: Reuters, photo: Getty Images)

Tatiana Golovin to miss the 2008 US Open

Tatiana GolovinTatiana Golovin of France will need to skip the 2008 US Open and I suppose the reason is the same back injury which forced her out of the Beijing Olympics.

It's hard to keep track of all the tournaments Golovin had to miss this year. The 20-year old will finish the 2008 season having played only one Grand Slam, the Australian Open. In addition, the other tournaments she has played so far include only: Sydney in January (reached the second round), Memphis in February (fell in the first round), $100K ITF/Cagnes-sur-Mer-FRA (was top-seeded and lost in the second round) and Berlin (lost in the first round) in May. And that’s all! It was quicker for me to name the tournaments she played than the ones she skipped.

On February 4th she reached career high of No.12, and now she's ranked 35th.

Golovin is expected to play at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, which starts September 29th. (photo: golovin-tatiana.com)

Ana Ivanovic named top seed for 2008 US Open

Ana IvanovicWorld No.1 Ana Ivanovic has been named as the top seed for the 2008 US Open which starts on Monday in New York.

The French Open champion will attempt to reach the quarterfinals at the final Grand Slam of the year for the first time.

By the way, Ivanovic was briefly not No.1 in the world after nine weeks at the top of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings as fellow Serb Jelena Jankovic took her place. Jankovic is now again No.2 after just one week of enjoying the top spot, and Ivanovic will stay No.1 for at least three weeks.

Here’s a list of the rest of the women's singles seeds (in brackets I added their best results at the US Open): Read more »

Nadia Petrova wins singles and doubles at Cincinnati Open

Nadia Petrova wins singles and doubles at Cincinnati OpenSecond seed Nadia Petrova beat unseeded Nathalie Dechy 6-2 6-1 at the Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open in Cincinnati to win her first title in 18 months and eighth career title.

Petrova also won doubles at the Cincinnati Open with fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko. They defeated top seeds Su-Wei Hsieh and Yaroslava Shvedova 6-3 4-6 10-8.

Petrova broke Dechy three times in both sets and produced one of her most consistent performances of late.

The 29-year-old Dechy, who won her sole WTA title in 2003 at Gold Coast, upset three players to reach the finals at the Cincinnati Open — the Frenchwoman beat No.4 seed Katarina Srebotnik in the second round, No.6 Aleksandra Wozniak in the quarterfinals and No.5 compatriot Amelie Mauresmo in the semifinals.

The 26-year-old Petrova had lost her last three finals coming into the championship match at the Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open. She was a runner-up last year at Amelia Island, Los Angeles and Eastbourne. (photo via Yahoo)
