Maria Sharapova said "Boo-hoo" on the possibility of losing No.1 ranking

Maria Sharapova at the 2008 French OpenWorld No.1 Maria Sharapova lost in the fourth round of the French Open to fellow Russian Dinara Safina, and could therefore lose the top ranking during the event to either Jelena Jankovic, Ana Ivanovic or Svetlana Kuznetsova. But here’s what Sharapova said about the situation: "Boo-hoo." Hahahaha, short and clear. I love Sharapova more every day.

The loss to Safina provoked another interesting response out of Sharapova. Masha was booed as she left the court after the defeat, but she said: "I can’t please everyone. That’s not in my ‘J.D.’ — not in my job description. I mean, they paid the ticket to watch me, so they must appreciate me on some level, right?" (via Tennis X, photo: Tennis Channel)

Carlos Rodriguez to coach Anna Chakvetadze

Carlos RodriguezCarlos Rodriguez, famous for coaching the recently retired Justine Henin throughout her impressive career, is probably going to coach Russian world number six Anna Chakvetadze.

It’s hard for me to picture Carlos coaching anyone but Justine, but it's great he’s ready to spread his knowledge to other talented players. The only thing is that Carlos doesn’t agree to travel, which mean that Anna will have to set up shop in Belgium (she currently lives in Moscow) to be able to train with him full-time. Maria Sharapova beaten by Dinara Safina at Roland Garros

Maria Sharapova at Roland Garros 2008Top seed Maria Sharapova of Russia had struggled for form in her opening three matches and eventually she fell to compatriot Dinara Safina 6-7 (6-8) 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 in the fourth round of the French Open.

No.13 seed Safina didn't make use of two set points she had in the opener, and in the second set she saved a match point, but in the end she beat the three-time Grand Slam champion.

Safina will next play the 2004 Roland Garros runner-up Elena Dementieva. Seventh-seeded Dementieva advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-4 1-6 6-2 victory over fellow Russian Vera Zvonareva, seeded 11th.

The fourth-round match between Dementieva and Zvonareva was full of errors. There were 11 breaks of serve in their 25 games and the pair conjured up 78 unforced errors between them.

In the quarterfinals, Dementieva will be playing her third Russian opponent and therefore she feels as if she were not in France: "I feel like I'm playing a Russian championship not Roland Garros." (source: BBC, photo via Tennis Channel)

Ana Ivanovic posing for FHM

World No.2 Ana Ivanovic will appear on the cover of the August issue of FHM. When I first saw this sneak preview I was a bit shocked to see Ana posing like that, but she looks fantastic nevertheless.

The feature will probably have at least eight pages, and judging by this photo it will be a success. It goes on sale in Britain on 1 July, and other editions around the world are due to be published around the same time.

The picture was taken earlier this year near Palm Springs by renowned photographer Don Flood.

In the quarterfinals Ivanovic will face either Slovenia's Katarina Srebotnik, seeded 27th, or Switzerland's Patty Schnyder, seeded 10th. (photo via Tennis Channel)

Currently the world No.31 Cibulkova and her boyfriend, ranked 59th in the world, are playing mixed doubles together at the French Open. Also, Monfils was spotted in Cibulkova's box during her singles match against third seed Jelena Jankovic at Roland Garros. Before, in April, Monfils was seen supporting Cibulkova at the Fed Cup tie between the Slovak Republic and Uzbekistan which took place in Bratislava.

The 19-year-old Cibulkova is not the first tennis player Monfils has been linked to, before the cute Slovakian there was Frenchwoman Alize Cornet. (via Great Tennis Photos)
