Maria Sharapova is making her resume even more impressive by signing on as a regular Editorial Contributor to Tennis Week Magazine.

The two-time Grand Slam champion will share the latest and hottest fashion, beauty, wellness, health, and fitness tips, while also giving the readers a look at the lifestyle of a trend-setting tennis star. Sharapova’s writing is always witty and sharp, and adding that to her vast knowledge of sports lifestyle and fashion, I think people will enjoy reading what she has to say, and possibly learn a thing or two.

In her role as editorial contributor Sharapova will personally create and edit material and produce her own page in each of the next nine issues of Tennis Week Magazine. Sharapova will make her editorial debut in the year-end November/December issue of Tennis Week and continue to create and edit her page in each of Tennis Week's eight issues in 2008.

This month, Canada's street-style magazine PEACE published an interview with Elena Dementieva, together with beautiful photographs of the Russian, who has recently won the Kremlin Cup title with the victory over Serena Williams.

The part of the interview I found most interesting was Dementieva’s story about her rib injury (more precisely, three broken ribs!) which had sidelined her from playing tennis for almost two months. France’s Tatiana Golovin sustained an injury in her first round match at the Generali Ladies Linz, while her countrywoman Marion Bartoli eventually decided to take part in the tournament (I assume she has fully recovered from her injury).

Seventh seed Tatiana Golovin, who has suffered two serious ankle injuries in the last 18 months, injured herself during her match with Greek Eleni Daniilidou at the Generali Ladies Linz.

Golovin lost the first set and had to save a break point to win her first service game in the second set. In the next game, leading 40-0 on Daniilidou's serve, Golovin slipped as she approached the net and requested medical attention for her ankle. After that, she played only four more points before receiving more treatment, this time to her right knee. Then, she retired from the match. Read more »

World number seven Anna Chakvetadze is the sixth player to qualify for the season-ending Championships, which will take place in Madrid, Spain from November 6-11. This great achievement was expected from the Russian taking into account her fantastic 2007 season in which she won four singles titles (Hobart, 's-Hertogenbosch, Cincinnati, Stanford).

“I’m so excited to play in my first Sony Ericsson Championships,” said Chakvetadze. “I love the beautiful city of Madrid and I’m hoping to perform very well. This has been an amazing year for me, having reached the Top 5 in the world, and I am looking forward to finishing strongly in Madrid.”

Superstitious or not, Maria Sharapova has decided that the best thing to do is to auction off her beautiful, but unlucky, US Open day dress.

Sharapova wore the dress only two times, and both times she was upset too early in a tournament. The first time was at the 2007 US Open when as defending champion she lost in the third round to Polish teenager Agnieszka Radwanska. Then, Sharapova didn’t compete for some time, and returned at Kremlin Cup, in the first half of October, when she suffered another loss, this time in the second round, to Belarus’ 18-year-old Victoria Azarenka.

Now matter how beautiful the Nike dress is, it’s apparent that it doesn’t remind Sharapova of anything good, so why not give it up.

Best-ranked Indian tennis player Sania Mirza has decided to end her season early to completely recover from injury and start the next year fresh and prepared.

The 20-year-old Mirza had planned to play two more tournaments after the Zurich Open, but on Monday, in the first round of the tournament in Switzerland, she strained an abductor muscle and had to change her plans. Read more »

Top-seeded Justine Henin beat world No.18 Tatiana Golovin 6-4 6-4 in the Zurich Open final on Sunday to win her ninth title of the year and to take the trophy in Zurich for the second time in her career.

In the opening set, Golovin was the one who broke first to take the 3-1 lead, but she didn’t manage to hold her serve and win the set. Henin broke Golovin two times, in the seventh and ninth game, to take the first set. Read more »

Top seed Justine Henin and Tatiana Golovin will face each other in the Zurich Open final on Sunday.

World number one Justine Henin fought back from a set down to defeat unseeded Czech Nicole Vaidisova 3-6 6-3 7-5 in the semifinals. France’s Tatiana Golovin, ranked 18th in the world, had a much easier time against Italian Francesca Schiavone 6-0 6-4.

This is the second time this month that Henin and Golovin meet in a final. Only two weeks ago they encountered each other in the championship match at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany, and the top-ranked Belgian took the title with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over the 19-year-old Frenchwoman. Second-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova became the latest casualty at the Zurich Open when right shoulder injury forced her to retire from her quarter-final match with Italy's Francesca Schiavone when trailing 3-6 3-3.

Fortunately, according to what Kuznetsova said her injury is not severe: "It's not that serious, I just need some time off because the muscle was getting very tired and I couldn't lift my arm up."

Out of eight seeded players that were there at the beginning of the Tier I tournament, only top-seeded Justine Henin and ninth-seeded Marion Bartoli are left. (source: Reuters)
