Ana Ivanovic signs sponsorship deal with Verano Motors

Ana Ivanovic has entered into an exclusive three-year partnership with Verano Motors, the distributor of Peugeot automobiles in Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia. This is probably the biggest ever endorsement deal for an athlete in Serbia.

Verano Motors will support Ana Ivanovic in all her sporting appearances in the next three years and will give her a Peugeot 207.

They chose Ana because of her outstanding qualities as a tennis player and as a person. In addition to being beautiful, kind, modest and popular at the same time, she's a fantastic tennis player with great prospects. (via Ana Ivanovic’s website)

My mother met Jelena Jankovic story

First of all, I want to apologize for not posting for a few days. I was very tired because of a busy night life – there is a huge music festival going on in my hometown of Novi Sad, Serbia. Tonight I’m also going to the festival, but I’ve managed to have enough sleep today, thank God.

Here’s a story waiting to be published for quite some time. It may sound pathetic, but what can I do. I’m a huge tennis fan, and my mom gets the chance to meet a top tennis player.

Jelena Jankovic and my mother

Here’s what happened: My mother was at the Belgrade airport the morning after the three Serbian players (Ivanovic, Jankovic, and Djokovic) had been welcomed by thousands of people in front of the parliament in Belgrade due to their huge success at Roland Garros (remember that?). After a really short time spent at her birth city of Belgrade, Jelena Jankovic flew to Birmingham to play DFS Classic (which she happened to win, defeating Maria Sharapova in the final!).

My mom immediately recognized Jankovic and approached her. They chatted a little, and my mother congratulated her the fantastic results. Jelena was very kind, and right away accepted to take a photo with my mom (the woman wearing glasses) and her colleague. It was nice of Jelena to have been so friendly, because she can’t even imagine how her small gesture can brighten someone’s day, maybe even a week.

To conclude, I’m glad for my mother, but, why wasn’t I there?

Serena Williams withdraws from Fed Cup with injury

Serena Williams is pulling out of the United States' Fed Cup semifinal against Russia because of injuries sustained during her fourth-round victory at Wimbledon when she strained her left calf and hurt her left wrist and thumb. Williams will be replaced by Meilen Tu.

On Tuesday, the eight-time Grand Slam singles champion also pulled out of next week's Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open in Ohio.

Russian team had some withdrawals as well: world No. 2 Maria Sharapova won’t play at this weekend’s Fed Cup due to her shoulder injury, and Russian media reported that world No. 4 Svetlana Kuznetsova would pull out, too.

Serena and her older sister Venus were part of the four-player team announced June 27 by U.S. captain Zina Garrison, along with doubles specialist Lisa Raymond and teenager Vania King. (source: ESPN)

Snow falls in Argentina, Fed Cup preparations not disturbed

For the first time in 40 years, snow fell in Cordoba, Argentina on Monday, but it was cleared so that Argentina and Canada could practice for their World Group II play-off tie this weekend. Luckily, it is expected that for the weekend the weather will be sunny and temperatures will be of around 15 degrees Celsius.

Argentine team is led by Gisela Dulko, accompanied by Jorgelina Cravero, Maria-Emilia Salerni and Betina Jozami. Members of Canadian team are Aleksandra Wozniak, Stephanie Dubois, Marie-Eve Pelletier and Valerie Tetreault. (source: Fed Cup)

Kim Clijsters is having a baby!

Kim Clijsters and Brian LynchKim Clijsters has retired in May, after her short but successful career, in order to focus on her private life. Former world No. 1 is about to marry U.S. basketball player Brian Lynch, and the latest news is that she is pregnant.

Kim’s father said: "If everything goes well, then Kim will become a mother next year and me a grandfather. Yippee." (source: Reuters, photo: Getty Images)

Even though everyone was dissappointed by Kim's early retirement, I think that after all she made the right choice. I wish her all the best!

Samantha Stosur withdraws from Fed Cup

Australian No. 1 singles player and No. 1 doubles player in the world Samantha Stosur has pulled out of the Fed Cup because of illness. She has swollen glands in her neck and it’s painful for her even just to turn her neck. Stosur is very worried and upset since doctors still don’t know which virus has caused her illness (hopefully they will know when the test results emerge).

Stosur’s withdrawal from the Fed Cup means that the Australian team will have much less chances of defeating the strong Ukrainian team which means that they are highly likely to fall out of World Group II.

The Australian team now consists of Casey Dellacqua, Alicia Molik, Nicole Pratt and doubles specialist Rennae Stubbs, while members of the Ukrainian team are sisters Alona and Kateryna Bondarenko, Yuliana Fedak and Yulia Beygelzimer. (source: Tennis Australia)
